Just Us: We need to talk about Adolescence...
44:19|Mercury is in retrograde and we’re all feeling it… Em, Al and Xanthe are in the studio today - and we’re gonna be honest… it was a little hard for us to find goods for this week’s GBA. Al’s been getting violent at the dentist and Em’s household has been hit by the flu. We also dive into the conversations that have been opened up in the mainstream in the wake of the Netflix show Adolescence - which follows the story of a 13 year old boy who is arrested for the murder of a girl in his school. We discuss the rise of online misogyny, how it’s affecting young boys and what hope we have of stopping it.This conversation does discuss plot points from Adolescence - but if you haven’t seen it - the conversation mainly focuses on the issues the show brings up rather than the details of the plot. It won’t ruin the show, but you may get more from this conversation if you’ve seen at least the first two episodes of the series. Listen to Sam Browne’s spoken work piece ‘Silly Billy’. Follow Sam to hear more of his brilliant work. 42:32|We have *muchos* to discuss today!Em’s got an awkward that Boy Alex won’t let her talk about and she needs to get off her chest. Meanwhile, Al has potentially given Betty a taste for human blood… We also discuss internet accountability - we know that that people say hurtful things online but why do people feel the need to do it? And why do people feel so comfortable to do it publicly? Alex has been completely outnumbered in the studio today with her very controversial opinion about tea.
