  • 82. 082: The Psychology of Biases that Blind Us From Seeing Others

    01:20:18
Welcome to the NEW season of the Speaking Our Minds Podcast with our new co-host Ranela Kaligithi! This episode is all about the psychology of biases- why they’re important, examples of common biases we fall into and how they effect us in real life and in the world at large. We're talking all about:Biases as mental shortcuts that help us make quick sense of the world. They serve us in the way that they quickly simplify information processing but they can also leave blindspots. How biases create walls of separation, “us vs. them” mentalities, or hinder us from truly knowing and accepting ourselves. The psychology of Confirmation bias, Availability Bias, and Confidence BiasThe importance of approaching life and others with curiosity and understandingSolutions for overcoming our natural biasesBiases are deeply rooted in our own framework of how we see the world because on our own way of thinking, experiences, upbringing, culture, etc. So because of this, we can all be biased in different ways when it comes to the information that we’re more likely to believe as true. Connect with us on social media for more:Podcast Instagram: @SpeakingOurMindsPodTik Tok: @SpeakingOurMindsPodFurther Resources:Thinking Fast & Slow by Daniel KahnemanBlink by Malcolm Gladwell
