Thank God It's Toby: Highlights
Mark Aiston
Mark Aiston is a renowned media personality known for his work in the Australian TV and radio industry. With a career spanning over four decades, Mark has left an indelible mark on the industry, particularly in Adelaide, where he has amassed a significant following.
However, Mark's life took an unexpected turn in 2016 when he found himself grappling with addiction, a battle that ultimately led him to lose everything he held dear. The grip of addiction took him to the depths of despair, leaving him feeling like he was trapped in hell. But through an incredible journey of self-redemption, Mark managed to break free from the devil's grip and reclaim his life.
In a pivotal moment on March 28th, 2016, Mark boarded a flight from Adelaide to Melbourne. It was on that gloomy, overcast day that he made a last-ditch effort to overcome his addiction to marijuana, alcohol, cocaine, and gambling. Mark sought refuge at the Hader REHAB Clinic, where he spent two months in intensive treatment, determined to turn his life around.
Since leaving the clinic, Mark has embraced sobriety with unwavering commitment. At the age of 60, he reflects on his past with profound clarity and acknowledges the destructive impact his addictions had on his family, friends, colleagues, and all those who had followed his media career. Mark's journey of addiction and recovery has transformed him, and he finds himself in the best space of his life.
Mark's message is a powerful and raw one, often unsettling for many. Unafraid to share his experiences, he holds nothing back as he recounts his spiral into the darkest of holes. With remarkable honesty, he discusses the depths of his drug use, the mistakes he made under the influence of alcohol, and the devastating consequences that led to the dissolution of his marriage and the loss of his high-profile roles in the media.
An advocate for mental health for over two decades, Mark now speaks from a place of true authenticity. He openly acknowledges feeling like a fraud for much of that time, but he has now found enlightenment, sobriety, and self-love. Determined to stay on the path of recovery, Mark uses his presentations to warn others about the treacherous journey he once walked. He offers an alternative route—one bathed in sunshine, hope, love, companionship, responsibility, and abundance.
When Mark takes the stage, he relies solely on his voice and his own compelling presence. There are no props, no PowerPoint slides—just a man who reflects on his tumultuous backstory while basking in the present and envisioning a bright future. Mark Aiston's story serves as an inspiration, a testament to the power of personal transformation, and a reminder that even in the darkest moments, redemption and hope are possible.
