#18 Daniel Skjeldam – Fra nøkkelperson i Norwegian, til konsernsjef i Hurtigruten

Med pågangsmot og gjennomføringskraft er det meste mulig. Få vet dette mer enn Daniel Skjeldam som i dag er konsernsjef i Hurtigruten – en av Norges mest tradisjonsrike og internasjonale merkevarer. Daniel Skjeldam har på rekordtid gjennomført endringer og levert resultater som de færreste vil oppnå gjennom en hel yrkeskarriere. Etter fullført befalsutdanning begynte Daniel sin akademiske karriere på NHH i kombinasjon med en stilling på Flesland Flyplass. Her jobbet Daniel med alt fra lasting av fly, innsjekk av passasjerer, og oppfølging av misfornøyde kunder. Under NHH-tiden skrev han masteroppgaven “Suksessfaktorer for lavprisflyselskap” som skulle vise seg å bli helt sentral for neste karrieresteg. Bjørn Kjos hadde nemlig nylig startet lavprisselskapet Norwegian, og Daniel mente han var en perfekt mann for teamet, med all sin erfaring og research fra skolebenken. Daniel ble tilbudt jobben etter et intervju av Kjos, og plutselig endte han opp med å bli en helt sentral nøkkelperson bak den eventyrlige suksessen til Norwegian. Etter 10 år som alt-mulig-person i Norwegian var han på jakt etter et nytt case hvor han kunne bruke all den kunnskapen han hadde opparbeidet seg. Og det var da Hurtigruten-casen kom på banen. Et selskap som hadde tapt enorme penger over lang tid, men som Daniel så et enormt potensial inn. Etter å ha nedringt Trygve Hegnar, og overbevist både Trygve, Petter Stordalen og Berit Kjøll i ansettelseskomiteen var jobben sikret, og Daniel kunne starte snuoperasjonen. I dag er Hurtigruten et verdensledende explorerselskap med operasjoner i Arktis, Norge og Antarktis i hovedsak. Og ambisjonene fremover er å utvikle verdensledende opplevelsesprodukter til kunder over hele verden.
