  • Nathan's Story: I was Raped When I was 8 Years Old and It Changed Me Forever, with guest Nathan Spiteri

    01:12:58|
Trigger Warning: Child rape and sexual abuse/assaultAccording to the latest statistics provided by Rape Crisis UK, 1 in 6 children has been sexually abused. This statistic is of course only representative of the cases of sexual abuse that have been reported. Unfortunately most cases go unreported. Statistics indicate that 40% of adults who are raped will not report. And, unreported childhood cases of sexual abuse and rape are much higher, with statistics indicating that 72% of adults who experienced sexual abuse as a child, did NOT tell anyone or report it at the time of the abuse. Child rape and sexual abuse is something that is far more common and prevalent than anyone would like to admit. But, we simply MUST start admitting it, talking about it, addressing it, not just with each other as adults, but having these hard conversations with our kids.... their futures depend on it. Joining host Jennie on this weeks episode is Nathan Spiteri. He is an actor, writer and producer, and he is child sexual abuse survivor. He has bravely shared his story of child sexual abuse on Ted X and many other platforms, as well as in his memoire 'Toy Cars'. Nathan is the much needed male voice around child rape and sexual abuse. Every time he shares his story and trauma, he is stepping in to be the voice for those (men and boys specifically) that haven't been able to find theirs...yet.
