Journalist Lauren Brill's Guide to Strength & Compassion

Season 4, Ep. 165

Lauren Brill is a seven-time Emmy-nominated and AP-award-winning journalist. As a television broadcaster, I was a sports anchor and reporter for the ABC affiliate in Cleveland, the CBS affiliate in Buffalo, and MSG Varsity in the New York metropolitan area. Also, I have written features for several nationally known outlets, including NBA.com, WNBA.com, NikeWomen.com, ESPN’s Girl Mag, and womensprosoccer.com.

In 2019, I combined my writer and television journalist skills to create The Unsealed. I ghostwrite all the featured letters, provide commentaries, and host a weekly interactive show called Unsealed Conversations. People Magazine, ESPN, ABC, The New York Post, and E! Online are among the outlets that have acknowledged The Unsealed’s work.

In our first year, The Unsealed reached more than a quarter-million people in 182 countries.

At Columbia University, I majored in sociology, focusing my studies on the impact of sports on society. The Unsealed is a platform where we help people write and exchange inspirational open letters that reveal strength and encourage compassion. Our mission is to use diverse voices and experiences to empower and unite people.

My career as a sports journalist, working for ABC (Cleveland), CBS (Buffalo), MSG Varsity (New York), and NBA.com, led me to create The Unsealed. Enlightened and inspired by the athletes I covered in 2017, before the #MeToo movement, I mustered up the courage to share what was once my darkest secret. I wrote an open letter to sexual assault survivors detailing my personal experience with sexual violence. My letter went viral around the country.

Sharing my story made me feel unstoppable. So much so that I started The Unsealed to provide a space where people of all races, genders, sexual orientations, and socioeconomic backgrounds can be heard and supported while motivating and educating others.

Our letters come from many people, including high-profile athletes, entertainers who have overcome tremendous adversity, and parents who want to improve the world for the next generation.

As a member of The Unsealed, you can enter our writing contests. You can share your stories, connect with PenPals, and ask our members for advice. You can engage in our discussions on our weekly live interactive show, Unsealed Conversations. Also, as a member, you receive access to exclusive content while supporting our goal of catalyzing social change.

We may experience the world differently, but our letters unseal the humanity that connects us all.
