The Mouth Of Manliness
Ginger From The Wildhearts With The Samaritans The Mouth Of Manliness Bonus
Today Nick and Brad teamed up with the Samaritans on World Mental Health Day to chat with Ginger from The Wildhearts.
He shares his take on what is going on in the world of mental health and gives out a few handy take aways for you to enjoy.
This World Mental Health Day, Samaritans is raising awareness of middle aged men still being the most at-risk group of suicide. The focus is on how, according to research, middle aged men remain most vulnerable to suicide with the cumulative risk factors being for those on low incomes and middle-aged.
Samaritans is calling for suicide prevention plans to be included across government department plans e.g. welfare and labour not just health. We are highlighting that two thirds of those who kill themselves have not been in contact with the health services in the previous year.
- Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50, with men aged 20 – 59 at the biggest risk of suicide.
- Two thirds of people who take their own life are not in touch with mental health services before they die, the majority are men in this group.
- A survey by @samaritans found almost 2 in 5 less well-off middle-aged men don’t usually speak to anyone when they’re finding life tough.
- There is always someone to listen if you need to talk. Please reach out to @samaritans on 116 123 if you’re struggling
- @samaritans are here to listen round the clock on 116 123
