I'm So Not Over It
Little Dome: April 1986 (Keeping Sunday Special and Laptops)
•
Tickets for The Xennial Dome's Little Dome - Live at Machynlleth Comedy Festival on 5th May 2024 are available here.
Sunday trading doesn't quite happen and IBM enter the laptop game a little late in this April 1986 edition of The Xennial Dome. Gareth Gwynn and Esyllt Sears have opposing ideas when it comes to whether or not shops should be open on a Sunday and maybe it's this kind of conflict which will see us shoot up the various podcast charts? Who knows.

ROSIE HOLT
46:29|Stand-up comedian and social media star Rosie Holt joins Gareth Gwynn and Esyllt Sears in a sound proof booth just days after the general election had been called to discuss the news and cultural phenomena she remembers (or doesn't remember) from the 1970s to the present day. There's revelations, a deep-dive into a single episode of Live and Kicking and long-standing mysteries solved (but all with the sound on Gareth's laptop turned-off for rights reasons). We also cover the Olympics, the dome, what's it like pretending to be a Tory MP and how many blue jackets she owns - as well as the transferrable skills you can take into comedy from estate agency. The obituary of Teletext hero Nick Fisher is here (although this one doesn't mention Teletext directly, it was him!)For more Saturday morning kids TV chat, do make sure to check out our interview with Live and Kicking legends Trevor and Simon, from back in 2021, as they lift-the-lid on Going Live, Live and Kicking and early-90s tours.Rosie Holt is on X and Instagram and TikTok and her topical podcast NonCensored is back for a brand new series, so check that out. (Queen and Frestonia)
22:37|We're on-location in the place which was once the epicentre of the Pony Poster scene - It's the teenage bedroom of Esyllt Sears. Gareth Gwynn has arrived in Aberystwyth with recording equipment to capture the ambience while the pair also discuss Queen's We Are The Champions and Frestonia. Gareth Gwynn Declares Indepndence From Wales, a BBC Radio Wales show about independent towns and what independence means, is available here.I Was There, a BBC Radio 5 Live show about Frestonia presented by Adrian Chiles, is available here. 50:09|Stand-up comedian and Podcast Polymath Elis James joins Gareth Gwynn and Esyllt Sears in the London Welsh Centre for the first episode in a brand new series of interviews covering cultural phenomena from the 1970s to the present day.And who better to kick things off than Elis? A stone-cold enthusiast of The Past, we cover his early appearences on Welsh TV, why Carmarthen became the centre of the artistic universe thanks to Jurassic Park and how Welsh football fans kept-up with the latest team news when no-one else really cared.Despite being the first show released under the new name, it was actually recorded under the old one (listen carefully and you can tell!) - but why not check-out some episodes from our back catalogue relating to topics and people mentioned in the show...Interviews with Nish Kumar, Steffan Garrero and Isy Suttie are all in the archive plus, if like Elis, you missed out on the Manics at the Millennium Studium, check out the emails section of this episode (July 1979) to discover why you didn't miss all that much!Tickets for "The Xennial Dome" live at Aberyswyth Comedy Festival on Sunday 6th October are available here. (Yes, it's under the old name, but it's fine, we'll have fun).Do get in touch via imsonotoverit@gmail.com or through one of the following social media accounts...(Deep breath, there's a LOT of them these days...)Instagram: @imsonotoveritX: @imsonotoveritBlueSky: @imsonotoveritTikTok: @imsonotoveritMusic by Alex_Kizenkov from Pixabay and Julius H from Pixabay.Edited by Laura Grimshaw.I'm So Not Over It is A Mighty Bunny Production.I'm So Not Over It - Trail
01:55|I'm So Not Over It: A comedy history podcast about stuff you'll remember.I'm So Not Over It is a comedy history podcast about things you'll remember from the first time round. Each week comedy writers Gareth Gwynn and Esyllt Sears explore a different month in history – but with a brief stretching from the mid-70s to the present day. Basically, if you could see it, it would be in colour. It’s politics and pop culture for the eighties, nineties, noughties and beyond, delivered in 20 minute hits because we know what your attention span is like. So if you remember Westlife but struggle with the Westland affair and if your favourite Aitken was a Tory MP or the one who co-wrote I Should Be So Lucky, we’ve got you covered in this ridiculous historical guide to the information age (even if that information came from a poorly recalled browse of Encarta ‘95). These weekly episodes are interspersed with interviews with the people who lived through this period to understand whether it has had any bearing on the lives they lead today. The perfect listen, whether you’re Generation X, Gen X, Xennial, Millennial, Generation Z, Gen Z or whatever Pepsi wants to call you.I'm So Not Over It is brought to you by the team behind the award nominated Xennial Dome Podcast - Previous guests on that show include Nish Kumar, Jess Philips MP, Trevor & Simon, Isy Suttie and many more and those episodes can be found on the same podcast feed. If we've set this up correctly. Let's see, eh? I'm So Not Over It is A Mighty Bunny Production.Music by Alex_Kizenkov from Pixabay. The Best Of The Xennial Dome (Part II)
43:27|Tickets for "The Xennial Dome" live at Aberyswyth Comedy Festival on Sunday 6th October are available here.==A Xennial is someone born between 1977 and 1985 - the tail end of Gen X and the older (or "geriatric", ugh) millennials. The Xennial Dome is/was the podcast which looked back at the Xennial era - Presented by comedy writer Gareth Gwynn and stand-up Esyllt Sears, the show studied the month in xennial history, as well as interviewing notable xennials about their experiences growing up alongside the internet and leaving home just in time for a global financial crisis. Other history podcasts tackle battles and empires, legendary figures and tragic antiheroes and ours does too - but in the form of Northern Rock, 20th Century Fox and Pete Waterman. This is the second of two Best Of episodes which draw a line under the podcast’s "Xennial Dome" era. We'll be back in October with a new name... But you'll be fine. 23:40|Comedy writer Gareth Gwynn spent August 2004 mopping up melted ice cream, Esyllt Sears spent it travelling between London and Cardiff and a group of Olympic marathon runnners spent it navigating the route of the 1896 marathon - although a (since defrocked) Irish priest had other plans. The interrupted marathon is one of the topics covered in this look back at the news 20 years ago this month - and there's a brief visit to 1963 as we remember the journalist Bernard Levin and a moment he'd probably rather forget.Video of the olympic marathon incident is here and the video of Bernard Levin being punched is here.If you've ever been punched on live TV get in touch on thexennialdome@hotmail.com or through one of the channels below...TikTok: @the.xennial.domeInstagram: @XennialDomeX/Twitter: @TheXennialDomeFacebook: @TheXennialDomeMyspace: thexennialdomeLittle Dome: August 2010 (Free Milk, Summer Wine and The Bill)
21:34|The temptation to call this episode "Last Of The Summer Milk", or similar, was enormous - but for some reason that sounds absolutely revolting. Gareth Gwynn and Esyllt Sears look back at August 2010 when The Bill and Last Of The Summer Wine stopped and free school milk continued - but only after careful consideration. In this show we consider the full milk curriculum and play a game about episode titles which is slightly harder than you'd think.Get in touch on thexennialdome@hotmail.com or through one of the channels below...TikTok: @the.xennial.domeInstagram: @XennialDomeX/Twitter: @TheXennialDomeFacebook: @TheXennialDomeMyspace: thexennialdome
