The Social Contract with Joe Walsh

As we speak, Donald Trump is busy at work continuing his war against democracy, our democratic institutions, checks & balances, and the rule of law. He remains every bit the threat to democracy he was 4 weeks ago. I know that Joe & Mika believe that. They said it every day of this campaign. So why in God's name would they run down to Mar a Lago this past weekend to sit down with him? All they're doing is normalizing him.

Trump has convinced millions and millions of Americans that the FBI, the DOJ, the intelligence community, doctors, scientists, military leaders are ALL our enemy. He did this on purpose. And his cabinet picks are all about declaring war on all of these Americans and all of these institutions. Why Gaetz, Gabbard, RFK Jr, & Hegswith and the rest? To get Trump's revenge.

I had a conversation with @hilzfuld. He's dual citizen American & Israeli. He and I are both super pro-Israel advocates. But we found ourselves on opposite sides in this year's American presidential election. So we sat down to try to figure out how that could be. A fascinating conversation.

We just elected an authoritarian. We elected a traitor to this country. We elected a cruel pathological liar. We elected someone who is demanding loyalty oaths from everyone he hires. Not loyalty to the country or the Constitution. Loyalty to HIM. We must not normalize that. We must resist him. I don't wish his Presidency well. I wish America well.

2016 was all about Trump. His base was a cult, and many others who voted for him were ashamed to say they supported him. No longer. His support now has moved well beyond his cultish base, Trump has been normalized, and the Party is now a full-fledged major political party again. The rest of the country had better wake up to this. For the sake of our democracy.

Unlike in 2016, this time they knew. This time the people knew exactly who Trump was, and they still voted for him. They knew who he was and they said either "I don't care" or "I want that." So now it's on them. Every anti-democratic and anti-rule of law thing Trump does is on them. Not Trump. Which is how a democracy should live or die.

MAGA now controls everything, they can now do anything, Democrats don't know what the heck just happened, half the country is in shock, the other half wants to take no prisoners, truth no longer matters, people are blind to the danger signs all around us...I'm worried for our country.

Who's to blame for Trump's victory? Well, Joe Biden stuck around too long, the Democratic Party is elitist and out of touch, but most of all, the American people knowingly voted for a horrible human being. That's their right. And they exercised that right. But by doing so, the American people said loud and clear that it doesn't matter what kind of human being a candidate is. That's scary.
