He is a multi award winning and hugely influential hero to many musical actors – ourselves included – and has graced stage and screen for nearly 5 decades. During this time he has won Mo Awards, Helpmann Awards, three Olivier Awards and was appointed Member of the Order of Australia in 2022 for significant services to the arts. He won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical in the gender-swapped production of Company in 2021 and also won an Outer Critics Circle Award and a Drama Desk award for the same role.
