EP2 - Bill Bailey
Season 1, Ep. 2
•
When Bill Bailey pounced on me backstage a couple of months ago at a charity event for Great Ormond Street Hospital, telling me about his experiments with percussion instruments, I felt I had to get him on my podcast to find out more about him! I think he might have only stayed to chat to me because there was a promise of food and his tummy was rumbling so much, but I found out lots about how he prepares for his shows, his hilarious theory on how music developed and what the first drummers sounded like! This episode still has me chuckling – thank you Bill!

01:01:04Neil Percy is the Principal Percussionist of the LSO and Head of Percussion at The Royal Academy of Music so he has plenty of tales to tell about everything related to percussion. It was wonderful to finally have the chance to have a good chat and gossip with him which I have to confess ran way over time so we had to cut this episode down a bit because we could have talked all day so Let's get Listening!Produced by Cheryl Davis27. 53:40I'm not an Olympic Gold medallist like my guest today, Sally Gunnell, but we do have one thing in common - we both grew up on a farm. We chatted about the sense of responsibility this gave us and motivation to get up every day and keep trying to succeed along our different paths. It was a true honour to talk to someone so successful yet so grounded about when to step up and when to step back. Let's get listening!Produced by Cheryl Davis24. Ep24 - Riz Ahmed
56:20My guest today, Sound of Metal actor, Riz Ahmed shares his extraordinary experience of learning American Sign Language, becoming a drummer and putting his body through rigorous work-outs all in the space of a few months. To absorb himself in the role of 'Ruben', Riz tells me how engaging with the deaf community truly taught him how to listen. It feels entirely appropriate therefore to say 'Let's get Listening!'Produced by Cheryl Davis
