The Evelyn Glennie Podcast
EP10 - Nicola Benedetti
Season 2, Ep. 10
This was such an exciting episode for me, aside from the police raid that seemed to be happening outside Nicky’s flat! Nicola shared with me the guilty pleasures of being able to cook 3 meals a day and having time away from the rigours of concert tours to her thoughts on providing music opportunities for all children. She really is a remarkable lady so Let’s get Listening!
EP9 - Jake Humphrey
Season 2, Ep. 9
No coffee and cake today - this is my first Zoom podcast - but Jake Humphrey, broadcasting professional that he is, soon put me at my ease!! Jake told me about his journey from hapless schoolboy to children's television presenter to respected sports commentator. We chatted about the impact of the recent lockdown on listening and being with others and agreed that we all need to appreciate each other more! I hope you'll appreciate this episode so Let's get Listening!!

The remarkable Nicky Goulder has joined me for a chat to discuss all things Create. Create is the UK’s leading charity empowering lives through the creative arts. Each year they put on hundreds of arts workshops to engage people who don’t normally get the chance to be creative. In this episode, we discuss the importance of listening to young patients; disabled children and adults; young and adult carers; schoolchildren in areas of deprivation; vulnerable older people; young and adult offenders; and marginalised children and adults.
EP7 - Mary Beard
Season 1, Ep. 7
Renowned historian, TV presenter, feminist and all round good egg, Mary Beard joins me for, not a little, cake. We compare her experiences of motherhood to my percussion ‘babies’ and ponder how much the world has really changed in the last two thousand or so years. Bon appetit!
EP6 - Griff Rhys Jones
Season 1, Ep. 6
Alas! It’s not nine-o-clock but it’s starting to get dark as I talk to Griff Rhys Jones, who is eager to go outside to take photographs. We cover so many topics from boats to not speaking Welsh and he has me laughing throughout, thank you Griff!
EP5 - Julian Lloyd Webber
Season 1, Ep. 5
It’s been a well overdue, and much needed, catch up with Julian. Renowned cellist and principal of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Julian discusses with me the challenges of being unable to perform and the joys of being able to share his wisdom and passion for music with the next generation.
EP4 - Debbie Wiseman
Season 1, Ep. 4
I’ve yet to convince Composer Debbie Wiseman to write a new piece for me but as this episode demonstrates, I’m almost there!!
EP3 - Nicholas Daniel
Season 1, Ep. 3
Today I’m probing world renowned oboist, Nicholas Daniel, on his thoughts on music education, his feelings about being a professional musician and the personal challenges he has faced. He’s naughty, lovable and I know you are going to enjoy this episode!
EP2 - Bill Bailey
Season 1, Ep. 2
When Bill Bailey pounced on me backstage a couple of months ago at a charity event for Great Ormond Street Hospital, telling me about his experiments with percussion instruments, I felt I had to get him on my podcast to find out more about him! I think he might have only stayed to chat to me because there was a promise of food and his tummy was rumbling so much, but I found out lots about how he prepares for his shows, his hilarious theory on how music developed and what the first drummers sounded like! This episode still has me chuckling – thank you Bill!
