Tennis Book Club - 'Ace, Marvel, Spy: A Novel of Alice Marble' with author Jenni L. Walsh

Season 1, Ep. 473

It's another Tennis Book Club, and in this edition we are joined by USA Today Bestselling Author Jenni L. Walsh. Jenni has written over 12 books including the bestselling 'Unsinkable' and now the future smash hit 'Ace, Marvel, Spy: A Novel of Alice Marble'.

‘Ace, Marvel Spy’ is based on the life of a very real, very incredible Alice Marble. She was a Trailblazer, superstar, activist, and spy! On the tennis court, Alice was an American tennis player who won 18 Grand Slam championships between 1936 and 1940: five in singles (including Wimbledon), six in women's doubles, and seven in mixed doubles. She was ranked world No. 1 in 1939. Marble was the Associated Press Athlete of the Year in 1939 and 1940. In 1964, Marble was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. She settled in Palm Desert, California, where she taught tennis until her death. One of her students was Billie Jean King. Billie called the book "A smashing success!” and Jenni joins the TW team to tell us about her process, her tennis memories and unpacks the incredible life of a tennis icon!

Jenni also gives us a preview of her next book and as always she can't escape telling Chris and Kim how she takes her tea. Make sure you purchase a copy of ‘Ace, Marvel Spy’ when it hits book stores and preorder your copy now.

We’ll also get into the ongoing scheduling conversations, with attention shifting away from night sessions for once. Elsewhere, there’s plenty of intrigue on the men’s side, including smooth progress for some seeds and off-court drama involving Davidovich Fokina. • 604. Roland-Garros Day 2: Monfils and Wawrinka's last dance, Swiatek + Rybakina ease through

    39:45||Season 1, Ep. 604
    Day 2 at the 2026 Roland Garros delivered drama, emotion and unforgettable farewells as Paris said goodbye to two tennis icons — Gael Monfils and 2015 champion Stan Wawrinka. Joel and Kim reflect on their incredible legacies at Roland Garros, debate whether Monfils should continue playing through the rest of the season, and revisit one of tennis’ most iconic fashion moments: the legendary “Stan’s shorts.”There was no shortage of chaos on court either, as Casper Ruud survived one of the wildest matches of the tournament so far against Roman Safiullin, battling heatstroke, a fifth-set collapse and a surprising medical timeout from the Russian that completely shifted the momentum. Joel still can’t believe what unfolded. On the women’s side, Elina Svitolina escaped a huge first-round scare against Anna Bondar, Katie Boulter battled through to Round 2, while Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina eased confidently into the next round.SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. • 602. Roland-Garros Draw Reaction! Djokovic avoids Sinner + can Gauff defend her title?

    01:02:11||Season 1, Ep. 602
    Roland Garros draw day has arrived at Tennis Weekly HQ, and Joel, Kim and Chris are here to break down the 2026 French Open singles draws quarter by quarter with predictions, picks and some truly questionable calls for Paris. In the men’s draw, Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner - to pretty much everyone’s relief in the absence of Carlos Alcaraz - landed in opposite halves, sparking debate over whether anyone can stand in Sinner’s way in his pursuit of a Career Grand Slam and if this year’s Roland Garros represents Djokovic’s best opportunity to claim a record 25th Grand Slam title. The trio also discuss why it could be Casper Ruud’s time again for another Grand Slam final and why it just doesn’t feel right having Felix Auger-Aliassime as the fourth seed at a major.On the women’s side, Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff headline the same half, while Iga Swiatek faces a nightmare route to another French Open crown including a potential battle with Latvian H2H nemesis Jelena Ostapenko. There’s also discussion on how much we can really expect from Emma Raducanu, Naomi Osaka’s tricky opener against Laura Siegemund, and Chris reports live from Paris with behind-the-scenes draw reaction including new pastry snacks. Plus, we unveil our Collect a Set player picks - Djokovic, Monfils, Jodar, Svitolina, Gauff and Andreeva - tell us how far you think they’ll go and enter before play begins on Sunday for a chance to win a Tennis Weekly mug!SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. Carlos Alcaraz’s 2026 season has taken a dramatic turn with the two-time Wimbledon champion and reigning Australian Open winner having officially withdrawn from both Queen’s and Wimbledon as he continues to recover from a persistent right wrist injury. At just 23, Alcaraz has already built one of the most remarkable résumés in modern tennis, but this setback raises serious questions about how cautious he must be to protect what could still be a very long and successful career. In this episode, we break down the impact of Alcaraz’s absence on the Wimbledon draw at Tennis Weekly HQ, the growing dominance of world number one Jannik Sinner and whether we can truly call the ATP Tour ‘boring’ right now, and what this means for contenders like Novak Djokovic in his continuing quest for Grand Slam 25. We also discuss the challenges of a two-player rivalry dynamic compared to the era of the Big 3.SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods.
