  • PREVIEW - The Friday Edition: Reviewing Joe Biden's presidency.

    26:39|
With the start of a new presidential administration, it’s natural to look to the future; and at Tangle, we’re doing just that. But before we start giving all of President Trump’s moves their deserved close reads, we wanted to conduct a thorough review of President Biden’s term in true Tangle fashion by taking a deep look at whether Biden fulfilled his core promises and how he tackled the key challenges he faced (we did the same for Trump’s first term). While we aim to be as thorough as possible in this analysis, capturing all of the nuances of an office as vast as the American presidency in a single piece is impossible. We’ll undoubtedly miss some aspects of Biden’s record or fail to capture the full essence of some of his decisions, but we’re confident that you’ll come away from this edition with a holistic understanding of the issues and policies that defined his term. As always, if you disagree with our analysis, think we missed the mark or want to discuss the piece further, don’t hesitate to write in. This is a preview of today's special edition that is available in full and ad-free for our premium podcast subscribers. • Biden’s last week as president.

    30:34|
During the final days of his presidency, former President Joe Biden issued several executive orders on major domestic and international issues. Additionally, he commuted the sentences of nearly 2,500 criminal defendants — a single-day record — and granted sweeping pardons to members of his family and other political figures. Biden’s last actions prompted debate over his legacy and the limits of presidential power as President Donald Trump begins his second term. Ad-free podcasts are here! Many listeners have been asking for an ad-free version of this podcast that they could subscribe to — and we finally launched it. • Trump's inauguration.

    31:21|
On Monday, President Donald Trump was sworn in as America’s 47th president in a ceremony inside the United States Capitol Rotunda in Washington, D.C. The proceedings, which were moved indoors due to freezing temperatures, marked the 60th inauguration in United States history and just the second-ever non-consecutive re-inauguration for a U.S. president (Grover Cleveland being the first). Vice President JD Vance was also sworn in, making him the country’s 50th vice president (and first millennial vice president). Ad-free podcasts are here! Many listeners have been asking for an ad-free version of this podcast that they could subscribe to — and we finally launched it. • PREVIEW - The Friday Edition: Tracking Trump's promises and key metrics for America.

    18:16|
This year, a change in administration and a larger staff has afforded us a new opportunity: to set some benchmarks that we can check back on in two and four years. Doing something as expansive as this hasn’t been possible for me, alone, in the past. But with the growth of our team over the last four years, I wanted to take advantage of our deep roster to do something much bigger and more comprehensive. So, as a team (and with the help of our readers), we’ve decided to lay out a series of reference points for both the incoming administration and the country as President Trump heads into office. Today, we’re going to share a list of these benchmarks, with some numbers or assessments on where they stand today. We’ve also set a calendar reminder to publish newsletters checking in on them in two and four years, so we’ll come back to the list then and explore how the Trump administration — and the country — is doing. This is a preview of today's special edition that is available in full and ad-free for our premium podcast subscribers. • The Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal.

    30:23|
On Wednesday, negotiators announced a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas that will pause fighting in the Gaza Strip and could potentially end the 15-month war that heightened other conflicts in the region and leveled much of Gaza. The deal is still pending approval by the Israeli government, which delayed a meeting to discuss the agreement on Thursday over alleged concerns that Hamas had not accepted all of the terms. Hamas senior officials said they remain committed to the deal. Ad-free podcasts are here! Many listeners have been asking for an ad-free version of this podcast that they could subscribe to — and we finally launched it.
