Welcome to our business podcast series in partnership with Baltic Ventures in which Patrick and I are angel investors.
Regular listeners will know about our business backgrounds ranging from large corporates to start ups across multiple sectors.
Based on our passion for business and conversation, we’re calling this series “Start Up Stories”
Baltic Ventures is a Liverpool based flagship tech business accelerator and we are showcasing a selection of start up businesses chosen from over 200 applicants. Each were also awarded a £50,000 equity investment to turbo charge their business growth.
Each guest has their own unique story with many business and life lessons to share.
In these first three episodes you will be hearing from
· Dr Sam Impey from Hexis – developers of technology allowing athletes to predict and personalise their nutritional needs.
· Kate Longworth from Gaia Learning – a global online school that supports neurodiverse children through personalised education.
· Thomas Farquhar from Heatio a cleantech start-up that manages energy use in your home to cut your bills and carbon footprint.
These are seriously impressive and ambitious companies, so we are delighted to be sharing with you a conversational insight into what it takes to be a budding entrepreneur in 2024 and how the power of conversations and community, has given them the courage and confidence to walk on towards their dreams.
We’re proud to be playing a small part in the journey of these fabulous founders so let’s talk on to walk on with Sam, Kate and Tom and let’s see where it leads

46. #46 10 Years of Change 2016 - 2026
41:08||Season 7, Ep. 4610 Years of Change: 2016–2026 In this episode, Michelle and Patrick reflect on the decade that changed everything from a time when they hadn’t yet met, and life looked very different. Michelle shares honestly about where she was ten years ago, grieving the loss of her mum, navigating divorce, and relying on antidepressants to get through the day. Both admit how, after they met, what followed wasn’t a sudden transformation but a relationship built on honest and often difficult conversations. They reflect how 2019 especially, was a year that was anything but calm. Despite the busyness, they made intentional choices about where to place their energy, creating a memorable wedding and re-building a home for their future together. A reminder that even in the busiest of times, we still get to choose what matters. Together they talk about:- how difficult it can be to create space when life is loud, busy, and full of distractions. why we often avoid stillness, and how constant "doing stuff” can keep us stuck. They also explore how their definition of success has shifted from external markers and expectations to something more aligned with their own reality and how they want life to feel.
