Mark Ryan

Mark Ryan believes in the experiential power of architecture, and his work is characterized by projects that are civic in nature and personal in their potential for impact. Known for strategic thinking and creative problem solving, his portfolio—which spans from master plans to furniture design and collaborative offices to facilities for rehabilitating troubled kids—contains diverse, award-winning projects that help re-imagine how we work, how we learn, how we play, and how we engage our communities. To wit, his contributions to housing for student-athletes at the University of Kansas and the Johnson County Youth and Family Services Center demonstrate his wide range of capabilities, all anchored in holistic solutions to challenging conditions.In addition to the practice of architecture, Mark is also passionate about education. He has been teaching at Arizona State University and University of Arizona since 2004 and is frequently invited to lecture on his work or as a visiting critic at institutions nationwide. He has served on the AIA Arizona Board since 2012, is the recipient of the Arizona Architects Medal and in 2022 elevated to AIA Fellowship in the design category.Mark received his first degree in architecture from the University of Cincinnati while lettering in intercollegiate athletics, followed by graduate school at the Architectural Association in London on a Foundation Scholarship. After working across the United States and Europe, including many years in private practice, Mark joined TreanorHL’s national architectural practice as a principal in 2019.
