What a week! This has been a WWDC for the books with the announcement of Apple's foray into the AI space. That said, there's also a ton of other news to cover for every operating system under the Apple umbrella, so I had to call in some help this week. Similar to last year, the MobileSyrup team is having a video game fantasy draft. We assembled the regular SyrupArcade Cast hosts, Dean Daley, Brad Shankar, Chris Brown and MobileSyrup freelancer and writer for The Gamer, Gabrielle Huston. From there, each person selects three games they believe will be the top-scoring of the year. The quartet will also do a follow-up podcast in the middle of the year after more titles are announced at 'Summer Game Fest' and other video game showcases, to add two more picks for a total of five each. 

The Game Awards 2023 have taken place, so the Syrup ArcadeCast crew, including, Dean DaleyBrad Shankar, and Chris Brown, alongside special guest, Steve Vegvari, breakdown this year's event. The podcast team talks about the awards winners, including Baldur's Gate 3, Alan Wake 2, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and more. They also discuss the controversy surrounding the awards ceremony and the developers who should have had far more time to speak.

Of course, a lot of this episode is dedicated to the six Game of the Year nominees: Baldur’s Gate 3, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Resident Evil 4 and Alan Wake 2. But we also look at several other big categories, including Best Narrative, Best RPG, Best Performance and, perhaps most controversial this year, Best Indie.

On this episode of the Syrupcast, the pod squad discusses their favourite smartphones of 2023 in our annual year-end episode.The team also tries out several new segments, including the return of a news recap, 'Tech Treat or Tech Trash' and more, as the pod squad prepares to revamp the SyrupCast in the new year.
