In this episode, Gerry and I discuss the changing role of the orthodontists in orthodontic care with a particular emphasis on the landscape in the USA
Described as an educational entertainer, Gerry Samson completed pediatric dental residency at Emory University, 1979 under the direction of Dr. Ed Hibbard and orthodontics at Northwestern University, 1981 under the direction of Dr. Hal Perry. Since that time Gerry has been in private orthodontic practice, is a Diplomat of The American Board of Orthodontics and a Fellow of The American College of Dentists. In addition to orthodontic private practice, Dr. Samson holds formal faculty appointments at 6 USA postgraduate programs, is consultant to private pediatric dental and orthodontic practices, lectures extensively both in the United States and internationally. In addition, he reviews orthodontic mechanics articles submitted for publication to The American Journal of Orthodontics and The Angle Orthodontist.

We also discussed the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh and the role of the Colleges in Dentistry in the UK.Dr Aman Ulhaq (BDS, MSc, MOrth, FDS(Orth)RCSEdin):Aman graduated with BDS(Hons) from University College Cork, Ireland in 2004 and worked for a number of years in general practice. He undertook specialty training in orthodontics from 2011-2014 at Addenbrooke's Hospital Cambridge and the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital and graduated with an MSc in Orthodontics from King's College London in 2014. He obtained his Membership in Orthodontics from the He became a Fellow (Orthodontics) of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2016 and has been in the post of Consultant/Honorary Senior Lecturer (University of Edinburgh) since December 2016.Aman has lectured both in the UK, South East Asia, China, and in North Africa. After completing his studies he worked in general dental as well as specialist practice in Germany until 2002 before returning to Ireland.He went on to persue a 3-year full-time programme in Periodontology and Implant dentistry at Trinity College Dublin. Additionally he holds a MA in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and is currently completing his diploma in advanced conscious sedation techniques.He has a keen interest in the management of the failing dental implant and the utilization of advanced bone grafting techniques.
