So Random with San Sel
(English) In Conversation with William Xiang
We did something very special for this episode. First, it’s our first ever episode in English. Second, we had a brilliant and interesting guest William Xiang (Willie). Willie is the Co-Managing Director for Nucleate Taiwan and Head of Strategy and R&D Operations at XWPharma. Last week, we sat down with him in his office/lab at Xizhi District, Taiwan to talk about biotech, his career jumps from financial service to biopharma, and his favorite cocktail bar in Taipei.
He has a diverse work experience in several roles and companies. At XWPharma, Willie helped the company successfully fundraise three equity venture rounds totaling US$70 million. He has expanded XWPharma’s global operations from Mainland China to US, Taiwan, and Australia.
Before joining XWPharma, Willie worked at The Vanguard Group, the world’s largest mutual fund company. He’s responsible for data analytics and strategy as a Senior Analyst in the Business Channel Strategy Group focusing on Vanguard’s largest broker-dealer clients such as Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, UBS, and Wells Fargo.
He holds an MBA from University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and received his BS in Psychology with a minor in Neuroscience from Haverford College.

4. 4. The Price of Perfection
15:08||Season 1, Ep. 4In recent months, I had a privilege to travel to places from urban to rural, and talked to people from across ages and backgrounds. After those deep conversations, one thought popped up: the pursuit of perfection. Our society has different expectations of us, depend on who you talk to.Some have sacrificed to give their best to fulfill the social contract, while others have resisted the status quo.At what price, do we need to pay for the perfection? Let's discuss.- Produced, Edited: San Sel- Cover art: San Sel- Theme Music: Soyb - Havana #SoRandomWithSanSel #Podcast #Perfection
5. 5. You're Independent, Intelligent, Decent
31:03||Season 1, Ep. 5I love to spend time with kids. They teach me something about human nature. After all, we're born equally independent, intelligent and decent. But through time and space, we loose these key elements unnoticed and unintended. We're social animals. To survive, feel safe and accepted, we follow a bouquet of values set by a group or society we want to belong. A gentle reminder from your child-self, you're independent, intelligent, and decent.#SoRandomWithSanSel
6. 6. Let's Talk about Death
13:25||Season 1, Ep. 6A recent tragedy urged me thinking about death and its meaning. It may be a taboo topic for some people. Death is an end of life. It's inevitable. We should not always be worried and afraid too much about the death. How should we talk about death? Visit: sorandomwithsansel.com #SoRandomWithSanSel
7. 7. The Power of Weakness and Vulnerability
21:31||Season 1, Ep. 7As children our minds are incredibly flexible. We surrender to feelings of weakness and vulnerability. Amazingly, they give us the source of power to acquire new ideas and information. We sense our inferiority to those older than us. We are open to the influence of our parents, grandparents, peers, and teachers. We feel highly motivated to learn. We also feel genuinely curious and hungry for new information. As getting older, we are too ashamed of showing our weakness and vulnerability. We project our image as a strong and self-reliant being. At the same, we are loosing the power to grow. In this episode, let's explore some ideas on how to be weak and vulnerable. This is a reflection from reading The Laws of Human Nature by Robert Greene. 8. 8. Why We Should Take a Break
08:50||Season 1, Ep. 8What did you do when you're out of ideas, energy, and motivation? Have you ever suffered from imposter syndrome when things didn't go as you wished? We all have been there, no? What if I tell you: "You should take a break. It's gonna be alright." How did you take a break? Please let me know.Visit: sorandomwithsansel.com#SoRandomWithSanSel
