The Right to Lose Weight with Billie Bhatia

Ep. 132

This week on the podcast, Em and Alex are joined by journalist Billie Bhatia! Back in February, the Sunday Times published an article written by Billie all about her desire to lose weight and the difficulties she has faced in the process. The girls wanted to talk to Billie and confront their own conflicting feelings and values as they are immersed in an online culture where self acceptance is key. The fear around publishing this episode is that it could trigger listeners, and despite it being purposefully confronting, if you feel the need to skip this episode, do what you need to do! This conversation dives deep into the thin ideal, the fear we have around calories, what it means to be happy and why, exactly, does Billie have the right to lose weight?

  • 138. Why is the World so Tough on Mothers?

    01:09:31||Ep. 138
    This week, Em and Alex are joined by founder of Motherkind, Zoe Blaskey! After a rollercoaster of an email from a listener last week, the girls were feeling a bit deflated. It was beginning to feel like there wasn't enough space to be open about the realities of motherhood, and that it wasn't clear to listeners how happy they were despite finding things hard. This is where Zoe came in to clear things up. Zoe is on a mission to help mothers shift from guilt, exhaustion and comparison to confidence and empowerment. She explains why a mother's instinct isn't innate, what matrescence is and why you shouldn't tell mothers that they will get back to their "old self". This enlightening conversation is for mothers, future mothers, those questioning whether they want to be mothers and those who have decided against parenthood all together!Follow Zoe @zoeblaskey on InstagramBuy Zoe's new book Motherkind here: https://beacons.ai/zoeblaskeyVote for us in the British Podcast Awards Listener's Choice category here: https://www.britishpodcastawards.com/votingFollow us on Instagram @shouldideletethatEmail us at shouldideletethatpod@gmail.comEdited by Daisy GrantMusic by Alex Andrew

  • 137. I’m More Than ‘Plus-Size’: Callie Thorpe

    01:13:54||Ep. 137
    In this week's podcast, Em and Alex are joined by writer and influencer Callie Thorpe. Callie's content focusses on travel and wellbeing, but it didn't start out this way. Callie is plus-size, and over the years has been scrutinised for her appearance: namely over a 'controversial' Cosmopolitan magazine cover where she was featured. Callie talks about recovering from the backlash of the cover, the fear of letting women down by stepping out of the limelight and how she rebuilt her confidence, brick by brick. Callie explains how she rediscovered herself by living a joyful existence, and why she wants to share this joy online.Follow Callie on Instagram @calliethorpeJoin Callie's newsletter, Just Good Things, here: https://calliethorpe.substack.com/Follow us on Instagram @shouldideletethatEmail us at shouldideletethatpod@gmail.comEdited by Daisy GrantMusic by Alex Andrew
