  • 32. Start the Row — See Where It Takes You | Follow Along Rowing Workout

    49:42||Season 5, Ep. 32
    This Row Along workout works on a Concept2, WaterRower or any rowing machine. Join me for 25 minutes of low-intensity indoor rowing, technique coaching and steady cardio fitness. But hang around for my epic rant - which starts with a pair of Boxer Shorts.👉 Full RowAlong Daily Workout playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8ookhrQKwvKEfSfOxp73vX02j8LrtUilSometimes the hardest part of a workout is simply deciding to start.I came into today’s row with absolutely no idea what I was going to talk about. I figured I’d climb onto the machine, get moving and see what happened.And then apparently I couldn’t stop talking. And I think rowing can work exactly the same way.You can have days where you look at the rowing machine and think: Do I actually fancy this today?You don’t necessarily feel tired. There’s nothing particularly wrong. You’re just not bursting with enthusiasm to get started. And that’s okay.Rather than waiting for motivation to magically arrive, sometimes it’s worth simply getting onto the machine and taking the first few strokes.Let your body warm up. Find your rhythm. Give yourself a few minutes.Because quite often, somewhere along the way, the session you weren’t sure you wanted to do becomes a row you’re really enjoying.That’s the idea behind today’s workout.I row 21 minutes at a low intensity and low stroke rate, followed by a 4 minute cool down. You can match my stroke rate, row easier than me, or put more power into each stroke if that suits you better.There’s plenty of useful rowing coaching along the way too, with reminders about posture, connection and getting more from the stroke without turning the workout into a technique lecture.And then, once the rowing is done, things go slightly off the rails.What starts with a pair of boxer shorts somehow turns into a proper rant, so if you make it to the end of the workout, you may as well stay for that too.So if you’re sitting there wondering whether you feel like rowing today, don’t overthink it.Start the row. See where it takes you.Workout21 minutes low-intensity rowing 4 minute cool down Low stroke rate / comfortable effortChapters00:00 Welcome & today’s row 00:43 Set your resistance 01:11 Seat position & posture 02:21 Foot stretcher setup 04:03 Catch position & connection 04:35 Start rowing 05:16 Legs, body, arms 07:41 Set your position before the catch 10:49 Chain path, body angle & power 13:57 Technique habits that can hold you back 16:53 How my rowing technique changed 18:01 Make the flywheel move — not just the handle 21:31 Where more rowing power comes from 23:24 Technique, comfort & effective workouts 25:45 4 minute cool down 31:27 Post-row stretching 41:52 Then I go into something of a rant... 48:36 Final wrap-up⚠️ Health Warning: Please make sure you’re fit enough for exercise before taking part. • 31. Stop Looking for the Quick Fix | Build Fitness With Me

    47:55||Season 5, Ep. 31
    SEPT 17: This follow along rowing workout is about building fitness the way it actually happens: gradually. No shortcuts, no magic session — just consistent work, better technique and enough patience to let the progress come.👉 Full RowAlong Daily Workout playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8ookhrQKwvKEfSfOxp73vX02j8LrtUilToday I’m rowing 21 minutes at low intensity with a 4 minute cool down, and you can use the session however it suits you — easy, steady, or with a bit more push if that’s what you need today.But the bigger idea in this one is about patience.When it comes to real cardiovascular fitness, there isn’t a shortcut.You start somewhere. You have somewhere you’d like to get to. And the bit in between is the work.That doesn’t mean every session has to be hard. It means continuing to show up, learning what your body responds to, improving your rowing and accepting that useful progress happens over time.You may notice changes quickly at first. You may also have days where things don’t go to plan.That’s fine.One bad session doesn’t undo everything. One missed workout doesn’t derail the whole process. You deal with it, reset, and carry on.And I think the journey is about more than fitness too.It’s also about learning:how your body respondswhat good rowing feels likehow to use your legs effectivelyhow posture changes the strokehow much intensity you needand when it’s better to ease offYou don’t need to know everything today.You just need to keep moving in the right direction.So RowAlong with me, work at the effort that suits you, and give the process time to work.Workout21 min low intensity row 4 min cool down Around 20 strokes per minuteChapters00:00 Welcome & today’s RowAlong 01:02 Machine setup 01:40 Seat position & posture 02:42 Foot stretcher setup 03:48 Handle grip 04:30 Start rowing 07:44 Check your posture 10:39 Hang from the handle 13:04 Rowing at 20 SPM 24:20 Fitness is a journey 25:36 There are no shortcuts 25:48 Give progress time 28:07 Stay on the journey 28:54 More than just fitness 29:52 Stretching 31:46 A journey of discovery 44:47 Keep learning and adjusting 47:29 Finish⚠️ Health Warning: Please make sure you’re fit enough for exercise before taking part. • 30. Are You Rowing on Autopilot? Get More From Every Stroke in 25 Minutes

    46:41||Season 5, Ep. 30
    Sept 16: Are you rowing on autopilot? Get more from every stroke in this 25-minute easy follow-along rowing workout to build fitness, improve your technique and enjoy rowing more.You don't need to row perfectly. You just need to engage with what you're doing — as you RowAlong with me, think about posture, feel where power comes from, use your legs, and connect that drive through your body into the handle. Then let the recovery happen in the right order.For most of us, keeping this simple idea in mind cleans up a huge amount of the stroke:Legs → Body → ArmsArms → Body → LegsAnd there's a real payoff for you. When you engage properly, you give yourself a better chance of getting an effective full-body workout, using more muscle, putting more useful power into each stroke, improving fitness, rowing more comfortably, and wanting to come back again.You don't need perfection. Get on. Pay attention. Use your body. Make the workout count.============Quick note: I know another rowing channel uses “Just Row” as its brand. That’s an unfortunate coincidence here, and I’m absolutely not saying you shouldn’t do his workouts. My point is simply that you shouldn’t climb onto a rowing machine and switch off mentally — his brand and the message of this video are unrelated.====================Today's workout for you: 21 minutes at low intensity, followed by a 4 minute cool down at around 20 strokes per minute. Match the rate and choose the intensity that works for you. You make this workout what you want it to be.▶️ ROWALONG DAILY WORKOUTS PLAYLIST ON YOUTUBEhttps://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8ookhrQKwvKEfSfOxp73vX02j8LrtUilChapters00:00 Welcome & today’s RowAlong00:48 Set your resistance01:21 Seat position & posture02:42 Foot stretcher setup03:57 Handle grip04:39 Start rowing05:08 Build the catch position07:16 Check your posture09:06 Switch on your core10:51 Start adding leg power12:12 Connect feet and hands14:32 Use the legs first16:14 Finish the stroke18:28 Think about your positions19:40 Do you really need perfect technique?21:56 Legs-body-arms / arms-body-legs23:06 Why efficiency matters25:39 4 minute cool down30:07 Post-row stretching41:07 The real point of today’s row42:54 Don’t just row — engage with it43:18 Get the best workout you can44:30 The message in one line46:32 Row well, be well⚠️ Health Warning:Please make sure you’re fit enough for exercise before taking part. • 29. The Row That Makes Every Other Row Better | Follow Along Rowing Workout

    41:49||Season 5, Ep. 29
    This follow along rowing workout quietly makes every other row better: 25 minutes to build fitness, improve technique and develop power at a controlled intensity.👉 Full RowAlong Daily Workout playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8ookhrQKwvKEfSfOxp73vX02j8LrtUilIt might not look like the most exciting session on paper, but this is the kind of rowing I think should be your bread-and-butter training.I row 21 minutes at low intensity, followed by a 4 minute cool down, keeping the stroke rate around 20spm and letting the effort build naturally rather than turning it into a test.That gives us time to work on the things that make your rowing better:connecting your feet to your handsusing good posture at the front of the strokekeeping the arms straight while the legs drivesequencing legs → body → armschoosing the right resistancelearning how much power you need to put into each strokebuilding aerobic fitness without making every workout hardAnd that's why I don't see these rows as filler between the exciting sessions.Spend enough time doing this kind of rowing and your fitness improves, your technique improves and your ability to put power into the machine improves too.You don't need to match my pace. If we're both at 20 strokes per minute and I'm rowing faster, that doesn't mean you're doing the workout incorrectly. Use an effort that works for your body today and concentrate on making each stroke effective.For most of the row I'm around 5/10 effort — heart rate up, breathing rate up, but still able to talk. By the time the cool down is finished, the aim is to feel like you could row again rather than needing to recover from what you've just done.Whether you're new to rowing or you've been doing it for years, these are the sessions worth keeping in your training.So get on your rowing machine, RowAlong with me, and give this one the attention it deserves.Workout21 min controlled low-intensity rowing 4 min cool down Around 20 strokes per minuteChapters00:00 Why this row matters 01:05 Resistance / drag factor 01:46 Seat position & posture 02:32 Foot stretcher setup 03:13 Handle grip 04:00 Start rowing 05:03 Connect your feet to your hands 07:11 Find your working intensity 08:40 The right effort for this row 09:52 Getting comfortable on the rower 15:33 Ease into tired muscles 18:46 Let your body — not ego — set the pace 20:05 Same stroke rate, more power 22:40 Technique, power & pace 25:06 4 minute cool down 26:59 How these rows make you better 29:41 Post-row stretching 39:39 New to rowing? 43:20||Season 5, Ep. 28
    This 25 minute rowing workout helps you build fitness at your own pace with a low intensity, low stroke rate RowAlong. Row with me for 21 minutes plus a 4 minute cool down and use the session to improve technique, move well and enjoy your rowing.👉 Full RowAlong Daily Workout playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8ookhrQKwvKEfSfOxp73vX02j8LrtUilToday’s row is all about taking the pressure off.I’m not chasing a pace target. I’m not forcing the workout. I’m just settling into 20 strokes per minute, seeing what my body has available today, and letting the row be what it needs to be.That’s one of the biggest benefits of these Daily Rows.Some days you’ll row a little slower. Some days you’ll feel stronger and the pace will naturally come down. The point is that you’re still getting the work done, building your aerobic base and spending time on the machine in a way you can keep coming back to.And that matters.Because these lower intensity rows don’t just help you get through a workout without emptying the tank — they also help you grow your fitness, improve your efficiency and give you more space to work on technique.In this one I also go through the fundamentals:resistance / drag factorseat position and posturefoot stretcher heighthandle griplegs → body → armsarms → body → legskeeping the arms straight on the driverecovering smoothly into the front of the strokeSo whether you’re here for the fitness, the technique, or just a good steady row to start the day, this session should give you something useful.Choose an effort level that feels right for you today, settle into the rhythm, and RowAlong with me.Workout21 min low intensity row + 4 min cool downChapters00:00 Time for a wee row? 00:49 Today’s no-pressure workout 01:01 Drag factor / resistance setup 01:22 Seat position & posture 01:51 Foot stretcher height 02:32 Handle grip 03:15 Start rowing 04:20 Let your body settle into the row 06:00 Row at your own pace 12:56 Why low intensity protects your energy 16:19 How these rows grow your fitness 18:22 Technique recap 19:37 Keep the arms straight on the drive 20:31 Recovery sequence 21:30 Front-end position & shins vertical 23:12 Posture, hands away & reset 26:22 Same stroke rate, different pace 29:19 Cool down & stretching⚠️ Health Warning: Please make sure you’re fit enough for exercise before taking part. • 27. The Rowing Workout for Everyone | Beginner to Experienced Row Along

    46:01||Season 5, Ep. 27
    Sept 11: This indoor rowing workout is suitable for beginners and experienced rowers alike — get fitter with a simple 21 minute controlled low-intensity row, a 4 minute cool down, and plenty of coaching to help you get more from every stroke.👉 Full RowAlong Daily Workout playlist:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8ookhrQKwvKEfSfOxp73vX02j8LrtUilI jokingly turn up as your rowing lifeguard today, but there is a real point behind it: this is one of those sessions you can keep in your back pocket whatever stage of rowing you’re at.If you’re new, I’ll take you through the machine setup and the stroke carefully enough that you can start building good habits from the beginning.And if you’ve been rowing for years, don’t switch off — there are plenty of fundamentals here that are worth checking again. Even something as simple as where you sit on the seat, how you hold the handle or when you open the hips can change how effectively you put power into the machine.Today is:21 minutes low intensity + 4 minutes cool downIf 21 minutes is too much right now, that’s absolutely fine. Do what works for you and build from there.During the row we work through:resistance and machine setupseat position and posturefoot stretcher heighthandle gripconnecting the legs to the handlelegs → body → armssmooth recovery sequencingchoosing an intensity you can sustaingetting a useful workout without making every session a testAnd that last point becomes one of the big themes today.Whatever level you row at, I think two things really matter:Get an effective workout.Enjoy it enough that you want to do it again.You don’t have to finish every row lying on the floor to make it worthwhile. Controlled rowing can raise your heart rate, work the muscles, build fitness and still leave you ready to come back tomorrow.That matters for beginners building the habit, and it matters just as much for experienced rowers who want rowing to remain something they can keep doing for years.So get comfortable, choose the effort that works for you today and RowAlong with me.Chapters00:00 Your rowing lifeguard for today!00:25 Today’s workout01:46 Set your resistance02:06 Seat position — experienced rowers too!03:24 Foot stretcher setup04:21 Handle grip05:45 Start rowing06:18 Connect the legs to the handle08:09 Build better technique as you warm up14:19 Make the stroke flow16:21 Row without chasing numbers20:14 The most useful rowing intensity24:49 Two things every rower needs26:55 4 minute cool down32:51 Post-row stretching36:05 Why technique still matters40:55 Row well for as long as you want45:33 Workout complete⚠️ Health Warning:Please make sure you’re fit enough for exercise before taking part. 43:48||Season 5, Ep. 26
    Sept 10: Switch off the numbers, and follow along with this rowing workout to build fitness, improve technique and give yourself space to row how your body wants to. I row 21 minutes low intensity + 4 minutes cool down, and you can use it to move well, relax into the stroke and simply enjoy your rowing.👉 Full RowAlong Daily Workout playlist:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8ookhrQKwvKEfSfOxp73vX02j8LrtUilToday I want you to take the pressure off a little and just row.That doesn’t mean rowing without purpose. It means using this session to tune into how your body feels today, settle into a sustainable rhythm and let the workout work for you rather than worrying about what the monitor says every second.There’s still loads of useful technique in here too:setting the resistance so you feel connectedsitting well on the seatfinding good posturesetting your foot stretchers correctlyconnecting your feet to the handleusing your legs, body and arms in the right orderstaying smooth and efficient through the recoveryOne of the big messages in today’s row is that one session doesn’t define you.Some days you’ll feel amazing. Some days you won’t. That doesn’t change who you are as a rower, and it doesn’t cancel out the work you’ve already done. Rows like this help you stay consistent, keep moving forward and build the kind of fitness that lasts.So if you want a rowing workout that gives you useful coaching, steady aerobic work and permission to leave the pressure at the door for 25 minutes, RowAlong with me.Workout21 min low intensity + 4 min cool downChapters00:45 Welcome & today’s row01:20 Set your resistance / drag01:37 Seat position & posture02:24 Foot stretcher setup03:34 Start rowing08:48 Find your intensity by feel09:20 Put the power in efficiently12:58 Let the legs do the work14:35 Switch on your core18:49 Smooth finish & recovery22:24 Full stroke refresher26:04 Row for feel, not numbers28:35 One workout does not define you29:52 Post-row stretching42:17 Wrap up⚠️ Health Warning:Please make sure you’re fit enough for exercise before taking part. • 25. How to Row at a Low Stroke Rate | 25 Minute Rowing Workout

    42:25||Season 5, Ep. 25
    This 25 minute rowing workout is all about learning how to row well at a low stroke rate — staying connected, moving smoothly and getting useful fitness work done without rushing the stroke.👉 Full RowAlong Daily Workout playlist:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8ookhrQKwvKEfSfOxp73vX02j8LrtUilToday is 21 minutes of low-intensity rowing followed by a 4 minute cool down, and the focus is finding that balance between low rate, good connection and a smooth rowing flow.Low stroke rate does not mean rowing the whole stroke in slow motion.The aim is to keep a purposeful drive, then give yourself time on the recovery.That starts with getting the basics right: sit well on the seat, set the foot stretchers so you can reach a comfortable catch position, hold the handle loosely and make sure you feel connected to the machine without having to fight it.Once we’re moving, I’ll help you think about the connection between feet and hands. As your feet press into the machine, your hands need to connect at the same time so the power from your legs actually travels through your body and into the handle. From there, the stroke becomes:Legs → Body → ArmsThen you relax, recover and set yourself up to do it again.That connection is what lets you row at a low rate without feeling like everything has slowed to a crawl.At around 20 strokes per minute, the drive is still roughly one second; it’s the longer recovery that creates the lower rate. That gives you time to move smoothly, stay relaxed and find a rhythm rather than racing backwards and forwards on the machine.And that’s really what today’s row is about:Row low — with flow.You can also choose the effort level that works for you. I talk about fitting these lower-intensity sessions into the rest of your week and leaving yourself enough energy for whatever else you have planned.So whether you’re newer to rowing and learning how to control the stroke, or you’ve been rowing for years and want to sharpen your connection at low rate, settle in and RowAlong with me.Chapters00:00 Welcome & today’s low-rate row00:53 Set your resistance01:18 Seat position & posture02:08 Foot stretcher setup02:51 Handle grip03:36 Start rowing04:31 Let the body open up06:19 Connect feet to hands09:09 Find your cruising pace10:19 Manage your effort for the day20:47 What are you training for?25:38 How to row properly at 20 SPM26:03 Drive vs recovery timing26:30 Connect power into the machine28:01 Feet-to-hands connection29:39 Low rate doesn’t mean slow motion30:01 Post-row stretching41:02 Final technique reminder42:17 Workout complete⚠️ Health Warning:Please make sure you’re fit enough for exercise before taking part. • 24. How to Use 85% of Your Muscles Rowing - 25 Minute Follow Along Workout

    46:45||Season 5, Ep. 24
    This 25 minute rowing workout will help you use more of your body on every stroke — by getting the legs, core, back and arms working together in the right order.👉 Full RowAlong Daily Workout playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8ookhrQKwvKEfSfOxp73vX02j8LrtUilYou’ll often hear rowing described as an exercise that uses around 85% of the muscles in your body.But there’s an important catch:you only get close to that if your technique actually allows those muscles to contribute.That doesn’t mean you need perfect Olympic-level rowing technique.It means getting the basics right:Legs → Body → ArmsStart the stroke with the legs, keep the arms straight and the body connected, then add the body swing and finish with the arms.Do that, and you give the power a chance to travel from your legs, through your core and back, and into the handle.If you pull too early with the arms or swing the back too soon, you can dramatically reduce how much of your body is contributing — and potentially put more strain into areas like the lower back or elbows.So today’s low-intensity row gives us plenty of time to work on that connection while still building aerobic fitness.The workout is:21 minutes low intensity + 4 minute cool downKeep the effort controlled, aim for a comfortable stroke rate, and use the time to feel the whole body working together rather than simply chasing pace.Chapters00:00 Why consistency matters 01:36 Set your resistance / drag factor 02:02 Seat position and posture 02:38 Foot stretcher setup 03:24 Handle grip 04:10 Start rowing 07:27 The 85% muscle claim 09:24 How to actually use more of your body 10:53 Why the legs come first 13:57 Why technique still matters 15:20 Protect your back with better sequencing 18:37 Avoid pulling too early 19:50 Why this matters for fitness 24:50 Low intensity vs HIIT 29:25 Into the cool down 29:28 Stretching and foot connection 46:02 Final thoughts⚠️ Health Warning: Please make sure you’re fit enough for exercise before taking part.
