A Point Worth Looking At

Sorry for the delay with this week’s episode, I [Josh] had some pressing family matters that needed to be attended to, and that slowed down me getting this out to everyone, but here we are! And it’s a good one, worth the wait for sure! This week Jay gets right into it! And this week he’s talking about Hegel! Hegel thought that Christianity offered a philosophical insight that other religions did not—mostly due to the idea of a Divine Humiliation. What is Divine Humiliation? What is the difference between humility and humiliation? Can humiliation do anything for us? Help us in anyway? These are some of the issues Jay discusses this week. He also dives into the different ideas of Christian focus, weighing the idea of the Crucified Christ vs the idea of the Risen Christ. This opens up some very interesting avenues of thought—Does only focusing on the Risen Christ take away some of the essence of Christianity? What is the importance of Jesus’ scars? What does it mean for the infinite to show itself to be finite? How can God’s loss on the cross, God’s willing to be divided and humiliated, and the idea of Jesus feeling forsaken help us in our lives and struggles and our will to keep driving forward? Does it help us relate to Jesus more? Jay and Hegel don’t have all the answers—they might not even have most—but together they pose questions that really give us food for thought. Full serving, hefty portions of food for thought. Of course there is always some discomfort in these questions and ideas, but that is okay. It’s okay to feel uncertain, or uncomfortable. That is all part of the journey. Let’s try not to pull back from it, but dive into it and see what helps us. Find what gives us hope and strength in our lives. We can’t get to that point if we’re too scared to venture out of our comfort zone. This talk shows us it’s okay to have questions and a desire to learn more. It’s a good one!

This talk was given on August 6, 2023 from Seattle, Washington.

  • Bad Company. (Jesus and the Roman Collaborator)

    01:14:55|
As a dad with two kids, weekends can turn into a chaotic blend of work and play. Just yesterday, I took my son to a car show, and it sparked so many thoughts about what truly matters in our busy lives. We often get caught up in the hustle, forgetting to pause and enjoy the little moments. The excitement of seeing diverse cars, the laughter shared with my son, and even the quiet moments of reflection remind me of the importance of balance. So here’s a thought: When was the last time you truly enjoyed a simple moment? Let’s strive to find joy amidst our busy lives. 💡 Maybe that’s the real lesson: life is about the moments we share, not just the tasks we complete. #ParentingLife #CarShowAdventures #BusyButBlessed #MomentsMatter #LifeLessonsAs always, we appreciate your comments, your support and this beautiful group of people at Revolution. • Embracing the Void (Crucifixion and the Other)

    54:22|
Ever felt like you're avoiding a tough conversation, just to keep the peace? You're not alone. 🙋‍♂️ In Richard Boothby's *Embracing the Void*, he dives deep into the complexities of love, sacrifice, and how we often overlook the real pain behind the crucifixion. It’s easy to gloss over the hard truths and jump straight to the victory, but real love requires facing the hard stuff. This book has been a game changer for me in understanding what it truly means to love and sacrifice for others, especially in these challenging times. Let’s not shy away from the difficult discussions—what does love look like to you? As always, we appreciate your comments, your support and this beautiful group of people at Revolution. • A Failed Faith? (A New Gospel)

    01:07:41|
Ever felt like your faith is being twisted? Let's talk about the gospel we've created...I've been reflecting on my journey and the conversations that challenge our beliefs. It’s wild how many people cling to outdated interpretations, neglecting the core message of love and compassion that Jesus preached. Why does it feel like some have forgotten the essence of the gospel? The anger and division among us is concerning. We’re missing the point if we think faith is only about following rules without understanding the love behind it.Let’s explore the idea of a "failed faith" together. What does it mean to truly embody the teachings of Jesus in today’s world? It's time to engage in meaningful conversations that push us towards a more compassionate and inclusive faith.#FaithTalk #CompassionateChristianity #RevolutionGathering #GospelTruth #LoveOverLaw As always, we appreciate your comments, your support and this beautiful group of people at Revolution. • God or ?

    01:00:43|
Ever found yourself at the mercy of a car repair bill? I was too... until I learned something powerful. Tag someone who needs to hear this! Last week, my car's engine light turned on, and I was quoted $5,000 for repairs. 😳 But instead of panic, I reached out for help in my community. With the right resources and some guidance, I managed to fix it for just $300! It's incredible how necessity pushes us to learn new skills. I never thought I’d be doing mechanic work, but here I am! The best part? We’re all in this together. Community isn’t just local; it’s global. When we share knowledge, we empower each other. What skills have you learned from necessity?
