Evening, Middle, cockcrow and morning. In the Old Testament the nights were broken up into three watches but the Romans are in charge now so that’s how its going to be. During the middle watch Jesus had been bound and more than likely beaten. According to the Gospel of John he is brought first to Annas who was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest that year. 14 Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jewish leaders that it would be good if one man died for the people.
