Can Do
Hi, This is Steve and welcome back to another segment of Press On. This is called Can Do.
As I look back at my growing up years I realize that they are a collection of experiences in relationships with others whether positive or negative.
Despite the hardships that our family endured we through the examples of my mother and grandparents were ingrained with the spirit of CAN DO. My grandfather, the farmer and horse trainer would say things like “the only thing hard work hurt on a man was his feelings” You just got to get up and get your work done that’s the only way to do it” It was without question that this can do spirit was forged by WWI, the Great Depression and WWII. He would tell us that we don’t have time to feel sorry for ourselves. Indeed a Can Do spirit…
IT REMINDS ME OF WHAT PAUL WROTE IN PHILIPPIANS 4
I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.
I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
There’s those words. “Can Do”.
The greek words used for Can Do Greek “ischuo from ischus means to be strong in body or in resources. Ischuo in this context means having the resources to accomplish some objective.
There’s much more to this story but for today think about this:
Can Do used in this context is not about self motivation or empowerment for our own enterprises.
It's in Christ that we have been given the resources and strength to accomplish his will….not just our own.
You don’t have His permission to quit, concede, or accept that which is evil. Stop with the “we just have to accept this.”
I encouraged you to get on your knees, ask the Lord to muster up in you the “can do” spirit that he has already given you. Because he has made you for “such a time as this.”
