Rank Rotten: A "Rotten" Movies Podcast

It’s the turn of the year so we thought it would be a good idea to reflect on a year of rotten movies, and most importantly rank them all from 19 to 1. We start with a wee chat about Hogmanay and our traditions and about the invasion of AI slop on social media before getting down to business and running through all 19, taking a little bit more time to discuss the top 10. Following that we have some fun segments as we discuss some of our favourite things from the season. There was Cabbage Patch Kids, Ninja Turtles, Buzz and Woody...but all these pale in comparison to the fictional Turbo Man craze of 1996! Join us as we talk about the time Arnold Schwarzenegger spent his Christmas Eve trying to get the hottest toy in town Jingle All the Way.Synopsis: Workaholic Howard Langston wants to make things up to his wife and son, promising to get the hottest toy of the season, Turbo-Man for his son’s Christmas -  As Langston hunts down the elusive gift on Christmas Eve, he competes with a mail man father on the same quest. We start with a wee discussion about some favourite Christmas movies, and films that are tangentially Christmassy and The Cheeky Girls…yeah really. Do you know what? It’s another mystery pick for Cat and she has picked 2004’s A Cinderella Story. This is a movie that attempts to bring a classic fairy tale into the 21st century, but does it succeed or is it a by-the-numbers money spinner?Synopsis: A teenager with a wicked stepmother develops an online relationship with a popular high school quarterback.We’ll talk about the film’s scores, go over the whole plot, talk about trivia and more. IT’S A G-G-G-Ghost! Wait, it’s OK, he’s friendly…shame about those uncles though. This time on Rank Rotten our Halloween Spooktacular concludes with 1995’s Casper; a cosy, fun, friendly ghost feature which for all its flaws has a lot of heart. Casper is a character who is synonymous with Halloween, so much so his live action feature length debut is based during the season. It’s also the movie's 30th Anniversary this year and so it felt right to celebrate it…feel old yet?Synopsis: Casper is a kind young ghost who peacefully haunts a mansion in Maine. When Dr James Harvey arrives to communicate with Casper and his fellow spirits, he brings along his teenage daughter, Kat. This is our last episode before we go on a wee mid-season break until October, so as a sort of special we decided to cover a 0% movie, and that movie is 1990’s Problem Child, a film which is very confused and didn’t really seem to know what it wanted to do, we’d seen it referred to as ‘Problematic Child’ and to be fair, that’s quite accurate.Synopsis: A seven-year-old troublemaker wreaks havoc on the lives of his new parents - a patient, kind-hearted man and his social ladder-climbing wife.’We’ll talk about the film’s scores, go over the whole plot, talk about trivia and more.
