Pathologically Honest
Sex work, Public Shame and Bipolar w/ Amanda
When journalist Amanda Goff publicly came forward as high-end escort Samantha X in 2014, she made headlines.
She built a public identity around sex work, wrote books about it, and became known for being bold, shameless, and confident. But behind the headlines was addiction, crippling shame and an undiagnosed bipolar disorder.
Now sober and out of the industry, Amanda joins us to talk about the reality behind the reputation. We get into the cost of going public, the life she sometimes wonders she could have had, and what happens when your most private experiences become part of your public identity forever.
*Content warning: This episode discusses extreme mental health crisis scenarios.

25. Sex When Society Assumes You Don't Want It w/ Angus
47:48||Ep. 25Angus has friendships, a fulfilled life, and plenty to say about the world. But when it comes to intimacy, there's a barrier many able-bodied people never have to think about. In this episode, Angus opens up about accessing sex work, the heartbreak that led him there, and the relationship he's built through hiring a sex worker, who affectionately calls herself his “professional girlfriend”.For Angus, this isn't just about sex. It's about intimacy, connection, having something to look forward to, and experiencing a part of life that can be much harder to access when you're a person with a disability. We talk about the assumptions people make about people with disabilities, why Angus shouldn't have to justify wanting intimacy, and the financial barriers that come with having to pay for something many people take for granted.Full episode transcript here Watch the full episode including live captions hereGet amongst it:Instagram: @pathologicallyhonest TikTok: @pathologicallyhonestYouTube: Pathologically Honest Georgia: @god_worthy on all the thingsTouching Base:@touchingbaseinc on Instagramhttps://www.touchingbase.org/Want to get Pathologically EVEN MORE Honest?Join us on Patreon for bonus unfiltered episodes, exclusive content, behind-the-scenes spirals, and community chats.
