Why your anxiety is so physical + how to get rid of social anxiety for good

Season 12, Ep. 1

I can't write a title long enough to capture all that's in this episode but it is a banger. It is probably one of the most helpful ones I've ever recorded. It's practical, it's back to basics to some degrees and while I set out to talk with an expert about the physical manifestations about anxiety and how to manage those, such as understanding depersonalisation for example, the conversation really wound up being a very essential grounding for understanding the anxiety we experience and then, of course, it's jam packed with really smart and sensible ways to get on top of that anxiety. It's with Dr Harry Barry who I've had on twice before. He's always one of my most listened to guests. He has a new book out, The Power of Connection, which he'll discuss. He also shares what he believes is a surefire way to cure yourself of all social anxiety. The first 15 minutes are dedicated to social anxiety. As an essential add on to this episode, and for a real time way to practice the flooding technique he discusses, I really advise you sign up to my limited library of real time audio guides to help you with anxiety and panic, which I've called Owning It Real Time. Sign up here. I don't often promote my episodes as much as I should but for this one, well if I'd heard it when I was in the throes of anxiety myself, it would have saved me a huge amount of suffering. Bookmark it and come back to it as often as you need. Thanks for listening.

    I think I have finally stumbled upon the missing piece of the puzzle to help with my son's severe separation anxiety. A fascinating listen on The Goulding Method and how it's melting away the anxiety experienced by kids. My guest is the Highly Sensitive Child Whisperer, Jen Bunting who works with thousands of families to implement this technique that parents do for their children while they sleep. As someone who is always a bit skeptical of these things, I can say from personal experience that I am already seeing a really positive difference from trying this myself If you are also in the throes of childhood anxiety, I hope it will give you hope because that's what it's done for me. • 5. The full picture of your anxiety + focus on the gut

    44:33||Season 14, Ep. 5
    For this episode, I want to bring it back to the body. How anxiety shows up in your body, particularly in your gut. • 2. Why your therapist needs therapy

    41:54||Season 14, Ep. 2
    This week my guest is a psychologist and psychotherapist Dr Natalie Cawley who has just released a book called Just About Coping. It reads like a drama but it's her story, her own experience of anxiety while becoming a qualified mental health professional, and what she's learned from both sides of the therapy room. It's peppered with really helpful anxiety advice and Natalie makes it so easy for you to grasp the concepts. If you've ever been curious about the person behind the qualifications and the expertise, this is a great place to start. We talk about so many things from her story, to the impact of breakups and why these in particular can result in so much anxiety, experiences like dissociation, cognitive distortions, attachment and more. We also talk about how one type of therapy worked for me but didn't yield any results for her. You can support this podcast by sharing it with a friend or signing up to my Substack.
