318. 5 Reasons Why Your Strategy is Failing and What to Do About It
18:27||Season 1, Ep. 318Episode #318 // Peter Drucker, one of the founding fathers of modern management theory said, “There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all.” This highlights just how much of what our people do, doesn’t add any real value to the company’s performance. You’ve no doubt heard me talk about value in the past — it’s the centerpiece of the No Bullsh!t Leadership framework, and it should be front of mind for every leader, every single day. But this is a lot harder in practice than it might seem… and it starts way back at the strategic planning process. Illogical leaps between planning steps, emotional attachment to the status quo, and misaligned incentives are a recipe for value destruction – and virtually every organization on the planet suffers from these ailments to some degree. In this episode, I give you 5 surefire ways to get control back, and make sure your people don’t spin their wheels by working on things that ultimately don’t deliver value.————————WANT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT STRATEGY FROM MARTY?Our new course, Strategy Beyond the Theory, will be going live early 2025.Join the waitlist to be the first to get access! ————————You can connect with me at:Website: https://www.yourceomentor.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/yourceomentorInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/yourceomentorLinkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/martin-moore-075b001/Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@YourCEOMentor————————Our mission here at Your CEO Mentor is to improve the quality of leaders, globally.Moment #88 Why Doesn’t My Boss Give Me More Direction?

But, once you understand the reasons why your boss doesn’t give you sufficient attention when you need it, you may be a little more forgiving. You need to take control of the transition to the next level, if you want to ensure predictable success in your new role.If you want to explore ways to take control when your boss isn’t supporting you as much as you’d like, have a listen to Ep.15: Stranded By the Boss.————————FREE QUIZ: I’ve developed a 3-question quiz that’ll give you a free personalized podcast playlist tailored to where you are right now in your leadership career!Click here to take the 30-second quiz now to get your on-the-go playlist————————You can connect with me at:Website: https://www.yourceomentor.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/yourceomentorInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/yourceomentorLinkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/martin-moore-075b001/Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@YourCEOMentor————————Our mission here at Your CEO Mentor is to improve the quality of leaders, globally.317. Leadership Confidence Is Crumbling… Here’s What’s Really Happening

What are leaders seeing in their ELTs that makes them question whether they know what they’re doing? We’re all aware of how rapidly the world is changing – generative AI is still in its infancy; global instability is increasing; and social change is happening faster than at any other time in human evolution. If you’re not, and you have aspirations to join the C-Suite, then you’d better start preparing, because it’s not looking like it’ll get any easier in the years ahead! This episode explores some of the root causes of the decline in confidence in our executive teams, and offers some suggestions to combat this decline.————————FREE QUIZ: I’ve developed a 3-question quiz that’ll give you a free personalized podcast playlist tailored to where you are right now in your leadership career!Click here to take the 30-second quiz now to get your on-the-go playlist————————You can connect with me at:Website: https://www.yourceomentor.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/yourceomentorInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/yourceomentorLinkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/martin-moore-075b001/Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@YourCEOMentor————————Our mission here at Your CEO Mentor is to improve the quality of leaders, globally.Moment #87 When Overruling Your Team Is the Right Move
04:34|Moment #87 // A “captain’s call” is a decision made unilaterally by a team leader without consulting colleagues, often resulting in a massive clusterf*#k.In the majority of cases, captain’s calls are seen by their team members as being out of touch, nonsensical, and driven by self interest. This begs the question: are there any situations where making a captain’s call is appropriate and, if so, what might those be?If you want to work out when it might make sense to overrule a team member, or if you should cut your boss some slack when she decides to make a captain’s call, have a listen to Ep.49: When the Boss Overrules.————————FREE QUIZ: I’ve developed a 3-question quiz that’ll give you a free personalized podcast playlist tailored to where you are right now in your leadership career!Click here to take the 30-second quiz now to get your on-the-go playlist————————You can connect with me at:Website: https://www.yourceomentor.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/yourceomentorInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/yourceomentorLinkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/martin-moore-075b001/Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@YourCEOMentor————————Our mission here at Your CEO Mentor is to improve the quality of leaders, globally.316. 05:41|Performance reviews seem to have fallen out of fashion in many companies, particularly those companies that focus purely on people’s short-term needs and wants. This does your people a huge disservice, because they never gain real clarity on what’s expected of them, and whether their performance is in line with those expectations. No performance review process is perfect and, like any tool, it can be incredibly valuable in the right leader’s hands, and incredibly destructive in the wrong leader’s hands. If you want to take a deeper dive into how you can give people real clarity on their performance, have a listen to Ep.96: Performance Reviews.————————FREE QUIZ: I’ve developed a 3-question quiz that’ll give you a free personalized podcast playlist tailored to where you are right now in your leadership career!Click here to take the 30-second quiz now to get your on-the-go playlist————————You can connect with me at:Website: https://www.yourceomentor.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/yourceomentorInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/yourceomentorLinkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/martin-moore-075b001/Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@YourCEOMentor————————Our mission here at Your CEO Mentor is to improve the quality of leaders, globally.315. How to Find and Keep Rare Talent That Drives 800% More Value
18:44||Season 1, Ep. 315Episode #315 // I frequently mention high performers in passing, but I don’t often talk about how to find them, how to keep them, and how to get the most out of them. Many teams never get to experience the joy of having a star performer in their midst. And the thought of leading a real superstar can be daunting… especially if you aren’t confident in your leadership ability, or if you don’t have the appetite to stretch every individual in your team.Let’s face it, genuine high performers provide a stark contrast to some of your other team members, and many leaders aren’t prepared to face into the reality of that massive performance differential, let alone do something about it! In this episode, I take a closer look at how to attract high-end talent, and how to liberate their rare capability and impact to create massive value.I've also created a great exercise for you to do (free of course), called 5 Key Strategies to Maximize the Impact of Your Star Performers. 05:32|Moment #85 // Enabling perfectionism creates all sorts of problems. Even though the quest for perfection sounds noble, in reality, it's mostly driven by fear of failure! It adds an enormous amount of time, cost, stress, and complexity to any piece of work, without any material improvement in the outcome.A quest for excellence is infinitely more useful: be smart, make good decisions, and keep moving. This is why, instead of perfectionism, you should think about deploying layers of excellence – it will increase your likelihood of getting a near-perfect result. If you want to take a deeper dive into overcoming the negative impacts of perfectionism, have a listen to Ep.285: When Profits Create Problems.————————FREE QUIZ: I’ve developed a 3-question quiz that’ll give you a free personalized podcast playlist tailored to where you are right now in your leadership career!Click here to take the 30-second quiz now to get your on-the-go playlist————————You can connect with me at:Website: https://www.yourceomentor.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/yourceomentorInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/yourceomentorLinkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/martin-moore-075b001/Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@YourCEOMentor————————Our mission here at Your CEO Mentor is to improve the quality of leaders, globally.314. The Silent Career Killer: Navigating the Dark Side of Office Politics
20:45||Season 1, Ep. 314Episode #314 // Politics exists in every organization. Some companies tolerate it more than others, and it’s not uncommon for ego-driven leaders to encourage poor behavior from their most ambitious people.Leaders who tolerate or encourage political maneuvering will find that it has a direct impact on team culture, cohesion, and performance. But politics is so ingrained in human nature that it can be really hard to identify and neutralize.Politics is the path that many leaders choose when they can’t deliver results… What they lack in ability, they make up for in ambition, so they find another way to climb the ladder… and that’s often by using politics to climb over the top of their unsuspecting peers. This is just a fact of life, and the rough and tumble of office politics becomes more intense with every layer you move up.The $64,000 question is, “How do you lead at your peak, and focus on the things that truly matter, without being blindsided by office politics?” I begin the episode by defining clearly what a political player looks like, so that you can spot them more easily. I discuss how political slurs, no matter how outlandish, can outweigh objective reality. And I finish with some tips for building bullet-proof networks as a primary defense against political attacks.————————FREE QUIZ: I’ve developed a 3-question quiz that’ll give you a free personalized podcast playlist tailored to where you are right now in your leadership career!Click here to take the 30-second quiz now to get your on-the-go playlist————————You can connect with me at:Website: https://www.yourceomentor.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/yourceomentorInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/yourceomentorLinkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/martin-moore-075b001/Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@YourCEOMentor————————Our mission here at Your CEO Mentor is to improve the quality of leaders, globally.
