Parenting Unfiltered: Navigating Cell Phone Use
We are gearing up to launch an incredible workshop designed just for parents tackling the ever-changing world of teens and their cell phone habits. Get ready for real talk, and practical tools to help you navigate this digital age with confidence! In the meantime, we thought it was the perfect time to revisit our chat with Dr. Alison Yeung for anyone who might have missed it the first time around!
How are devices impacting the mental health of our youth? Dr. Alison Yeung, a Family Physician from Ontario, Canada, has noticed a growing number of teen mental health-related visits over the past decade. With kids spending increasing amounts of time on devices, especially on social media, YouTube, and video games, she began research on the topic. What she found raised serious concerns about how these platforms are affecting young minds. Now, Dr. Yeung is dedicated to educating parents, encouraging them to delay their children's exposure to social media, and reducing the harmful effects of handheld device use. For more on how you can cut through the noise surrounding screens and social media follow @thesmartphoneeffectmd.

39. Parenting Unfiltered: Inside Roblox: Why Parents Should Be Paying Attention
27:25||Season 14, Ep. 39Before we did the research on Roblox, we honestly thought it was just a simple video game. Most parents probably do. But the reality is far more complicated. Roblox is a massive gaming platform with millions of user-created games inside it. Anyone can build a game, and kids can jump in and play — which means there’s essentially no real regulation. And because kids are kids, they don’t always recognize what’s happening. Groomers often pretend to be the same age as the child they’re interacting with, and they know exactly how to move conversations off the platform where they can’t be traced. These people are highly skilled at what they do, which is why parents need to know what’s really happening behind the scenes. We created a guide to help you navigate it all at https://www.thecommonparent.com/.This podcast is presented by The Common Parent. The all-in-one parenting resource you need to for your teens & tweens. We've uncovered every parenting issue, so you don't have too.Are you a parent that is struggling understanding the online world, setting healthy screen-time limits, or navigating harmful online content? 38. Cat's Divorce Story
33:25||Season 14, Ep. 38We are chatting about the rise of grey divorce and something even quieter, the silent divorce, when couples quietly unravel without ever officially announcing a thing. Cat opens up about her own divorce story and how it shaped her. And if you’re a parent going through it, put your sh*t aside. Your shrapnel doesn’t need to land on your kids. Be the grown-up. They don’t need the messy details, they need stability, they need love, and they need to see you happy. Divorce is complicated. Your kids shouldn’t have to pay for it. Leave us your divorce stories! How did you get through it? How did the kids?Want our podcasts sent straight to your phone? 33:33||Season 14, Ep. 35We are bringing you a repeat of one of your faves for Thanksgiving Friday! We covered it all in this one—from the bedroom to the big screen. First up: Viagra. Why do men get an instant boost with that little blue pill, while women are still waiting for something to spark their libido? Next, we’re tackling the empty nester myth. Do couples really heat things up once the kids move out, or is that just wishful thinking? And of course, we’re talking holiday movies—is it just us, or are they getting way naughtier?Want our podcasts sent straight to your phone? 33. Parenting Unfiltered: Doomscrolling and Why We Do It
39:17||Season 14, Ep. 33We’re talking about doom scrolling — why we do it, why our kids do it, and how it can quietly become the way we mute feelings we don’t want to deal with. Scrolling can make you feel everything, or it can make you feel nothing at all. Either way, it pulls you out of your own life without you even noticing. At some point, your kids will need to study or focus without you taking the phone away from them, and understanding their doom-scrolling habits is important for both you and them. This podcast is presented by The Common Parent.
