Ivan Yates

Season 2, Ep. 10

We couldn’t have picked a more inspirational person for our last episode of Season 2. The former Irish politician and serial entrepreneur Ivan Yates entered the Irish parliament aged just 21 in 1981. He rose through the ranks of the Fine Gael political party to become an Irish Government Minister for Agriculture in 1994.

By the turn of the century Ivan was being tipped as a future party leader and Taoiseach or Prime Minister of Ireland. In 2001 he left political life to concentrate on his business career. Ivan grew his Celtic bookmaker’s business to over 65 shops in Ireland and Wales. But when the recession hit in 2008, he found his business went into receivership. This led to Ivan having to go to Wales and declare bankruptcy in 2011.

Ivan then started a new career in radio broadcasting with Newstalk and he grew his national show into one of the most popular shows in Ireland. Then ever the restless man, Ivan left the show in 2020 and he has started a new business Media Masterclass advising people and presenting courses on how to deal with the media. Ivan has had many career ups and downs, but through it all his positivity, relentless energy and will to succeed shines through in this episode.

We will be returning with Season 3 in the new year so we would ask you to subscribe or follow this podcast and you will be the first to get new episodes direct to your phone in the New Year.
