Last Thursday, the Mayo Football League was launched in the TF Royale, Castlebar, marking the long-awaited return of league soccer in the county. John Corless was in attendance at the launch for Midwest Radio Sport. He spoke with a number of Super League managers about the upcoming season (which gets underway on Saturday February 28th). He also gave a preview of what's to come in the weeks ahead, and the changes that have been made to the league. Eoghan Jennings from Westport Tennis Club has secured a place in the qualifying draw for the Australian Open Junior Grand Slam taking place this week.  This extraordinary achievement marks an exciting milestone in Eoghan’s career and is the culmination of a hugely successful 12 months competing on the international circuit across Ireland, Norway, South Africa, the Cayman Islands, Guatemala, Miami and Bolivia. Eoghan is currently no 127 in the World Junior Ranking and is the first in Connaught to represent Ireland in the Australian Open Junior Grand Slam qualifiers. It is also the first time since 2022 that there will be junior Irish representation at the event.
