God Has Spoken

In this episode we are discussing the importance of aligning ourselves with those who practice and teach what the Scriptures say. Sometimes we make friendships with other God-fearing people and even consider them to be allies in the faith. However, we need to be careful that whoever we consider a brother or sister, is actually following what Jesus said. Especially in regard to salvation and how we obtain it. What does the Bible say about those who are God-fearing, but have not chosen to follow Christ fully yet?

In this episode we are talking about the discipline of fasting. This practice is discussed and seen all over the Old Testament as well as New Testament. While it is certainly the case that fasting was commanded as it was associated with feasts in the old covenant, does Jesus command that we ought to be fasting on a regular basis today? And if I were to choose to fast, what is the purpose of it and how can I do it in a way that it accomplishes something?

In this episode we are in 1 Corinthians 15. Many people either deny or don’t know what the Bible says about Resurrection Day. Some assume that it would only be our souls that are raised when Jesus comes back, but here in 1 Corinthians Paul makes it clear that it is actually our body that is raised. What does that mean for me now while I am still breathing? How does this teaching change my perspective on life?

In this episode we are taking our lesson from Jeremiah 42-43. In these days the typically hard-hearted people inquire of the Lord through the prophet Jeremiah. However, when they hear exactly what it is that God wants them to do, they are less than enthused to obey. Are we ever like that? Do we act like we are excited to hear a message from the Lord, but when push comes to shove we hesitate to do what God said?

In this episode we are using an excerpt from Isaiah 13 to talk about the trustworthiness of the Bible. Many people believe it is just an ancient book with random sayings. However, in instances like the one we will be talking about today, we learn that archeological findings support what the Bible had said all along. Especially when it concerns the destruction of a city and the remnants that have been left behind. 

In this episode we are looking at the events surrounding Jesus’ arrest that leads to his death. Many around Jesus on that night become so frightened that they leave Jesus friendless and alone. When others threaten or mistreat me because of my association with Jesus how do I respond? Am I bold enough to stand by Jesus’ side? Or do I run away in embarrassment and fear?

In this episode we are looking at the Israelites in Numbers 21. In this chapter we see the impatience, frustration, and general angst that the children of Israel are feeling toward God while they wander in the wilderness. To no surprise, their unhappiness is seen in their complaints that they level against God. How do we compare to that generation of Israelites? Do we complain just as much and fail to show gratitude to God who provides so abundantly for us? Or are we thankful people who stop and give thanks in all things?

In this episode we are looking at 2 men that display their humility in both action and words. In Exodus 18 we see a reunion between Moses and his father-in-law Jethro. On multiple occasions we see them give God the credit he deserves when Israel succeeds, as well as we see them open to correction and feedback from God and others. Are we as humble as these men when it comes to our success, and as open to criticism when we are failing?
