Hoovering - Episode 217: Melissa Stephens

Season 1, Ep. 217

Welcome to HOOVERING, the podcast about eating. Host, Jessica Fostekew (Guilty Feminist, Motherland) has a frank conversation with an interesting person about gobbling; guzzling; nibbling; scoffing; devouring and wolfing all up… or if you will, hoovering.

I’m hoovering from the Edinburgh Fringe in this episode where I’m talking to a brilliant, wise, kind, innovative American comedian who I’d never normally have access to - it’s the excellent Melissa Stephens. She came to my flat for lunch where I braved knocking up a haggis salad. Yes you read that right. Why not?

Hoovering - Episode 219: Lucy Campbell

Season 1, Ep. 219
This episode is with one of the most physically extraordinary guests I’ve ever had - elite crossfitter, Lucy Campbell. If you don’t know what crossfit is it’s the type of PE I’ve been doing for the last two years and it’s about weightlifting, gymnastics, mobility and fitness. It gets you in the everything basically but the focus is on functional performance, there are no mirrors, for me I’ve found an incredible community including a new set of real life actual friends. Anyway - once a year there’s a competition that anyone can enter called ‘the open’ and then it’s whittled down to the most insanely fit and strong few people in the whole world and they go and compete in Madison, Wisconsin at The Crossfit Games. A 5 days mega competition where all the events are secret even until the last minute. Now - Lucy made it to the games this year as a rookie and has just, this August, been crowned the 16th FITTEST WOMAN IN THE WHOLE FUCKING WORLD> She’s a baby but competing with giants and she still managed to actually WIN 2 whole events even. She is: INCREDIBLE. Anyway - she’s based in Nottingham and today’s hoovering is with her. Lucky lucky lucky lucky us. Everything written below in CAPITALS is a link to the relevant webpage. Honourable Mentions/ LinksYou have to follow Lucy ON INSTAGRAM and the gym she coaches at which she refers to as ‘cfn’ is CROSSFIT NOTTINGHAMGo to PATREON to discover the ever increasingly exciting wonderment that I’ll swap you in exchange for your pennies. My new show WENCH has just this weekend left at  the EDINBURGH fringe festival where it’s had a fully sold out run with extra shows and so far a giant list of 6 four star reviews including from The Times - but if you’ve missed the fringe, fine because it’s coming ON TOUR? Host, Jessica Fostekew (Guilty Feminist, Motherland) has a frank conversation with an interesting person about gobbling; guzzling; nibbling; scoffing; devouring and wolfing all up… or if you will, hoovering. This episode was recorded LIVE back in May at the beautiful Machynlleth Comedy Festival with brilliantly funny Welsh comedians Priya Hall and Esyllt Sears. They were amazing company and they both brought the most exciting things to taste to a hoovering live recording that guests have ever done before. It’s an absolute wonder that no-one was, as far as I know, harmed in the making of this particularly excellent edition of the podcast. Everything written below in CAPITALS is a link to the relevant webpage. Honourable Mentions/ LinksFollow PRIYA HALL and ESYLLT SEARS and here are tickets to ESYLLT’S FRINGE SHOW and here is a LINK TO HER BRILLIANT PODCAST.
