The Iroquois Theatre Fire

On December 30, 1903, the Iroquois Theatre, in Chicago, caught on fire, during a standing room only performance. It would become the deadliest theater fire and the deadliest single-building fire in United States history. A total of 602 people died as a result of this tragedy.
