199. Fearlessly Failing: Lorna Jane Clarkson

I can honestly say, hand on my heart, that I made a new friend today. When Lorna came over for the interview she was warm, friendly, kind and I felt like she genuinely cared about my dreams and aspirations. This episode is for anyone who has a dream. LJ started out teaching aerobics and making her own outfits to teach class in, then she'd make outfits for people who asked her where she bought the getup from, that progressed to having a rack on the side of the gym where people could buy her creations after class. She remembers teaching a class and the whole room was wearing what she'd whipped up. In 1990 she opened her first ever store, it was scary and took a truckload of courage. Fast forward to today Lorna is the director and creative designer of Lorna Jane, author of best selling books (one of which you'll hear us talk about today), she's motivation and movement creator. Even coining the term "active wear." In this episode we talk about drive, making mistakes, burn out, why dieting sucks, having an inner tiger and passion. I left this pod feeling inspired and like i had made a friend, Lorna was so giving of her time and energy and she spurred me on to chase my dreams even harder. I hope you love this chat.

Welcome to all that is the beast of casting. Sam’s spent a huge chunk of his career working in casting and Lola’s spent enough time in casting rooms to know what it feels like to bomb and fall flat on your face. This is an honest chat about casting, what it involves, we break down the difference between a chemistry test and a screen test. We’ll explore what stands out, what works and what doesn’t, and most importantly how to make the most of your 5 minutes in a casting room.Director Alex Hardcastle’s 3 tips for actors walking into a casting:1. Think about what the producers, directors or writers want and what they were trying to say. Know your audience2. Take a stab, go bold. It doesn’t matter if its wrong. It’s better to go in bold and not get the part, than be wishy washy and be like everyone else. Go big or go home3. Always turn up prepared, and know your linesHere’s a trailer to the Wolverine: Logan movie Sam auditioned for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Div0iP65aZoHere’s a little BTS of the chemistry test for Twilight of Robert Patterson and Kristen Stewart. He had to take a quarter of a vallium before the audition, was about to give up on acting to focus on his music career and didn’t have enough money to fly to Los Angeles for the for the chemistry test but his agents convinced him to do it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwPCvGVYZ-IWe hope you loved this ep; please leave us a comment of question and follow along on insta:Big love from,Sam & Lola in LA- Sam insta: https://www.instagram.com/samrken/ - Lola insta: https://www.instagram.com/yummololaberry/
