E.107 Is This A World We Want To Live In? With Will Pearson Co-Founder of Ocean Bottle

Ep. 107

In my kitchen this week I am joined by Will Pearson the Co-Founder of Ocean Bottle where we have a big discussion about the extent of the ocean's plastic pollution issue, what we are currently doing to reduce the amount of plastic going into our oceans and what more can be done!

Will is interested in combining entrepreneurship with social and environmental impact. He’s appeared on the Forbes 30 under 30 list and was named one of Norway’s Top 10 Leaders under 30 for his work towards sustainable development goals. After his engineering degree, William spent a year working at sea in the Indian Ocean, where he experienced first hand the effects of pollution on the ocean, and decided to pursue a career in environmental impact and business.

Ocean Bottle is a social impact brand first and, reusable bottle brand second. On a mission to prevent 7 billion plastic bottles in weight from entering the ocean by 2025, Ocean Bottle enables companies and individuals to have a global impact on stopping ocean plastic.

Its core product, the world’s most impactful reusable bottle, funds collection of 1000 ocean-bound plastic bottles in weight for every purchase. Ocean Bottle products stop ocean-bound plastic at the largest sources, setting up long-term infrastructure for plastic collection and supporting livelihoods in coastal communities worst affected.

Ocean Bottle has recently launched new ventures based on its impact platform Ocean Co which offers customers full traceability of funding. Ocean Bottle gives over 15% of its revenue to impact and has so far prevented 14,164,500kg of ocean-bound plastic, equivalent to 1 billion plastic bottles from reaching the ocean.

In this episode we discuss the following topics:

  • The mission and concept around Ocean Bottle
  • The pivotal moment of how Will then started Ocean Bottle
  • Just how bad the global plastic pollution issue is
  • How did the team start to tackle such a vast global issue
  • Plastic as currency
  • When the plastic is collected and recycled what happens to it?
  • How the recycling system works
  • How the UK deals with some of it's rubbish
  • What more can we do to make a difference
  • What businesses can do
  • E-confessions

  • 108. E.108 F*ck Being Humble: How To Control Your Narrative with Stef Sword-Williams

    01:00:39
This week, I am thrilled to welcome Stef Sword Williams into my kitchen. She is the founder of the remarkable book "F*ck Being Humble," where she advocates for the importance of effective self-promotion and challenges the notion that modesty is always the best policy. In the UK, we are known for self-deprecating, often downplaying our successes and mocking our achievements. This mindset isn't healthy! We tend to believe that we can only celebrate ourselves when others do so first, and that putting ourselves down will make others feel better. However, to reach our goals and be recognised, we need to learn how to self-promote.Stef Sword Williams launched "F*ck Being Humble" in 2018 out of frustration with the conventional approach to self-development and the missed opportunities that came from not speaking up.I remember attending an event where Stef spoke about self-development, and I thought, "I have to get her on the podcast." And now, here we are!In this episode we touched on the following topics:What do you mean by F*ck Being Humble Why is modesty not always best Why are we particularly bad at this in the UK compared to the USAWe care what other people think - but often that is just a reflection of themselves and how they are feeling rather than a reflection on you and your successes or winsHow can you promote yourself but also be gracious Self-promotion also comes from confidence - what if your not confident?Self-promotion is only for the self-employed?Confidence vs Competence In your book you touch on highlighting your failures but then also highlighting your strengths Often we don’t see our own strength and failures - then what do we do?Fake it till you make it - what are your thoughts?Your journey to self-promotion and your career with Fuck Being Humble This episode was hosted and produced by Georgia SymondsGeorgia’s Instagram - click here! For more information and other interesting articles check out our website: www.catchupsinmykitchen.com

    01:00:00
In my kitchen this week I am joined with Sarita the co-founder of Amilis Fertility. Amilis is a one-stop shop for all things egg freezing, they refer to themselves as the best-friend that holds your hand throughout the process, guiding individuals to the right clinic and ensuring they feel supported every step of the way. Sarita's personal fertility journey inspired her to establish Amilis, recognising the lack of knowledge and support she experienced during her own successful but challenging egg-freezing process. In the past two years, there has been a remarkable 250% increase in egg-freezing rates, reflecting a significant demand driven by shifts in lifestyle and society. Factors such as expanded career opportunities and a desire to explore life before starting a family contribute to this trend. This prompted my conversation with Sarita, where I delved into the intricacies of egg freezing: its procedures, associated risks, costs, and the misconception of guaranteed parenthood. The episode didn't just explore egg freezing but also delved into fertility concerns for both men and women, making it a truly enlightening discussion. The topics we discussed were:Sarita's personal fertility journeySarita's journey to starting Amilis At 25 years old, should I be thinking about fertility nowThe Egg Freezing process from start to finishEgg qualityDo our lifestyle choices affect fertilityThe prime age to freeze your eggsHow long do your eggs last in the freezerThe risks involvedWhy do you need to collect so many eggs? The priceWhy the rate of egg freezing is increasing? Why sperm count is decreasing Men's lifestyle choices and the effect it has on fertility Contraception Sponsors:AXIS BIOTIX - Order your 28 day skin to gut sachets - hereCATCHUPS for 10% off your order This episode was hosted and produced by Georgia SymondsGeorgia’s Instagram - click here! For more information and other interesting articles check out our website: www.catchupsinmykitchen.com
