  • 5. Demystifying the menopause // BLOOM Naked Truths

    59:36
Mpower is an inclusion group within Bloom that help members better understand and deal with the challenges of perimenopause, menopause and midlife and to push for better representation and support within the industry. In this episode, our host Samantha Frankel, Bloom member and founder of Mpower, is joined by two brilliant guests: Dr. Stephanie Goodwin, a menopause specialist and GP who is committed to giving women the most up-to-date and accurate information about menopause and HRT to help them to make informed choices as they navigate this stage; and Landy Slattery, Creative Director of All4, Channel 4’s on-demand platform and co-chair of 4women, the gender equality network at Channel4. 4women was the driving force behind the introduction of a workplace menopause policy at the channel, the first of its kind in the media industry. In a lively and open conversation, our guests talk candidly about their own experiences of this natural stage of every woman’s life, both at home and at work, and consider the urgent need to reframe our attitudes towards ageing and menopause, breaking the taboo that surrounds this to reduce the negative impact it has on women’s lives and careers. With 1 in 4 women considering leaving work because of their symptoms, the silence and lack of awareness around this topic is damaging and change is long overdue.Landy shares the simple but immensely empowering steps Channel4 took to support women within their organisation during this time and the business case for others to do the same and Stephanie offers her expert practical advice to demystify the stages and symptoms and tackle some of the myths that surround certain treatment. And this one is not just for the girls – this affects partners, kids, brothers, bosses, and women of all ages – everyone’s invited to this party so grab a coffee and bring them along.CREDITS -Written & hosted by Samantha FrankelEpisode guests – Dr Stephanie Goodwin & Landy SlatteryProducer Laura JamesPost production Kim Rowell
  • 3. Tackling racism in the workplace // BLOOM Naked Truths

    41:06
Bloom in Colour is an inclusion group within Bloom representing women of colour. Our members felt there was a lack of representation of WoC within the initial network, something that is reflected in our industry as a whole – and so Bloom in Colour was born! In this episode our host and Bloom member Kim Rowell is joined by two other brilliant Bloom members - Elizabeth Anyaegbuna, who is one of the founding members of Bloom in Colour, alongside Nana Opoku, one of Bloom in Colour's active and supportive members. Both Elizabeth and Nana are very successful women working within the media industry and in this episode of Naked Truths they talk candidly about their experiences as black women and the challenges that women of colour face within the workplace. Their honesty on this topic clearly shows there is still a lot more to be done as a community to educate ourselves and make positive change to tackle racism in the workplace, and society as a whole. We hope you enjoy this highly informative and moving discussion. Please let us know your thoughts and comments on this episode by contacting us by email - bloomorguk@gmail.com, or reaching out to us on Instagram @bloomuk_org / Twitter @bloomuk / or LinkedIn - Bloom UK.
