David Orren from SENTIA - How to disrupt alcohol
My guest today is David Orren CEO and Co Founder of Gaba Labs. David and his team are producing a drink called Sentia,
Sentia has been created with the research support of Professor David Nutt, one of the most important psychedelic researchers contributing to the new psychedelic industry and science. (check out his organization DRUG SCIENCE)
A drink that gives us everything we want from alcohol, but without the alcohol. With over 40 years experience, David is one of the world’s foremost experts on alcohol and its effects. David co-founded GABA Labs in order to achieve the vision of bringing greater choices to adult social drinkers. Sentia is the first consumer-facing brand to evolve from this breakthrough work. It’s kind of the third way: neither alcohol nor alcohol-free
Sentia is a so called GABA Spirit, the world’s first truly functional alcohol-alternative category, a blend of functional botanical ingredients, designed by the science team at GABA Labs to offer that 'two drink sweet spot’. So Sentia enhances your Gaba receptor, no alcohol involved.
It is designed to create the togetherness and celebration we are used to experience with alcohol. But what if we would not use alcohol any more to connect? Also Sentia has been created with the research support of Professor DAVID NUTT, one of the most important psychedelic researchers contributing to the new psychedelic industry and science.

David and I talk about
- why we drink and how drinking is part of our communication system
- why new molecules will replace our “old” ways of stimulating our brains and bodies, without being psychedelics
- why human beings will always look into celebrations and substances to support a collective “party” experiences
- how the alcohol industry might change
- why starting a psychedelic journey makes you stop drinking alcohol

Since a few years I am following Jonathan and his wife and Co-Founder Myriam Barthe’s great work around the idea to build a strong, decentralized network and offerings for KAP (Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy) to empower as much therapists as possible to execute the therapy. They did an incredible and successful job to make Ketamine therapy available and build a strong system in collaboration with therapists and doctors. In this episode is talk to Jonathan about: -how PTSD can give you a skyrocketing career, until you realiize your “energy” is trauma in disguise-how we both were very good in PTSD friendly jobs (banking & media) and left them because we realised our own PTSD -how Journey Clinical helps therapists to support their patients with ketamine therapy, (eventually psilocybin) if they are interested in trying and why normal “therapy” needs a strong transformation What Journey Clinical doesJourney Clinical is on a mission to transform the growing mental health crisis by accelerating the mainstream adoption of legal, evidence-based Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy as the standard of care for mental health, starting with Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy. Dr. Shauheen Etminan - How to apply Eastern Psychoactive Secrets to Thrive
01:08:52||Ep. 98This episode is sponsored by Magi Ancestral Supplements, whose leading team of neuroscientists, ethnophamacologists, and phytochemists, has unlocked the formulation of an ancient Eastern psychoactive elixir that was lost to time.Lets talk about ancient alchemy today! Today I chat with Dr. Shauheen Etminan, the founder of VCENNA an advanced biotech company specializing in natural drug discovery for mental health, seamlessly blends ancient Eastern medicine with modern science. As a scientist, researcher, product developer, and dedicated entrepreneur, Dr. Etminan is committed to creating holistic wellness solutions rooted in the convergence of medicine and …mysticism. Armed with an MSc and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Dr. Etminan's expertise extends beyond the technicals. He is a mystic who has been practicing Sufi whirling meditation for many years, reflecting his deep commitment to holistic well-being. Renowned as a world expert in phytochemical extraction technology, Dr. Etminan explores the realm of psychedelics with a particular focus on ancient texts. Dr. Etminan and his team have unveiled neurological health properties in beta-carbolines. This groundbreaking discovery has led to the formulation and launch of multiple psychoactive supplements designed to promote longevity, mindfulness, and therapeutic benefits under Magi Ancestral Supplements.Ancestral Magi is co-founded by Dr. Shauheen Etminan and has the legendary Dr. Dennis McKenna on its scientific advisory board. They have combined modern neuroscience with ancient Eastern medicine to formulate 100% natural nootropic supplements that are psychoactive and legal!Magi's products' primary group of compounds are beta-carbolines extracted from the sacred plant, Espand, also known as Syrian rue. Their products promote neuro-longevity, mindfulness, and mental wellbeing. Did you know that Espand has the same psychoactive compounds that exist in the Ayahuasca vine? I'm not relating to DMT, but beta-carbolines. Experience the magic of their supplement, Stard, Magi's meditation supplement, which has been my favorite. It provides 60 to 75 minutes of pure bliss, where the mind stops wandering and can be present in the here and now. (Whether you're new to meditation or a seasoned practitioner, Stard is an ancestral catalyst that will take you further on your journey) Magi’s supplements are fully legal and currently available in the US. Madison Margolin - Exile, Ecstasy And The Jewish Psychedelic Underground
01:09:07||Ep. 97Today I am speaking with Madison Margolin, an author, journalist, editor, consultant, educator, and guide to all things Jewish-Psychedelic. She is the also the former Co-Founder of the Double Blind magazine about the new culture of psychedelics. Her book. Exile and Ecstasy Growing Up with Ram Dass and Coming of Age in the Jewish Psychedelic Underground is pretty fascinating.Exile and Ecstasy sets out to explore the psychedelic path that occupies the crossroads between the Ram Dass movement and Judaism. It’s a path of seeking and escape, rebellion and return, medicine and magic. It’s a path that ultimately points toward home.Through the perspective of having grown up among “HinJews” in the Ram Dass community and in the cannabis legalisation movement, journalist Madison Margolin takes the us on a journey inside New York’s Jewish counterculture and the Hasidic underground, reconciling her roots, tackling ancestral Jewish trauma, and finding intersectionality between the Jewish and psychedelic experience. This book is for anyone looking to feel spiritually kindled, to make peace with where they come from, and to reconcile seemingly disparate experiences of spirituality and psychedelics with traditional religion.I think in these times we live in, books like this are really necessary.https://www.madisonmargolin.com/96. Ingmar de Gooijer - We can heal ourselves - with psychedelics
01:02:36||Ep. 96Have you thought about changing your mind, I mean really change it? And have you thought about going on a trip? I mean a psychedelic trip? There will be more and more facilities in the future where you can do this in a safe set and setting, also in a legal setting. My podcast is a space were I introduce these places to you and today I am talking to Ingmar de Gooijer, the Founder of Magnolia in the Netherlands.A place which offers individual psychedelic programs. Magnolia supports patients and clients in gaining access to their inner healing intelligence and activating it. After a thorough screening, each patient and client follows a personalized program that includes the administration of a psychedelic substance. Magnolia offers Ketamine therapy for patients under the medical supervision of psychiatrists, psychologists, and physicians in a mental health treatment environment. As well as experiences with psilocybin-containing truffles facilitated by experienced guides. I believe that these experiences will become way more normal in the future, and also destigmatized. Ingmar de Gooijer and I talk about the new type of customer looking for an experience, about the changes psychedelics created in our own lives and about a new idea around personal health care. @mymagnoliawww.mymagnolia.nl/en95. This program was developed in conjunction with the Connected Leadership Study, a novel research project led by Rachelle Sampson, Ph.D. and Bennet Zelner, Ph.D., faculty at the University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business who appeared on my most recent podcast episode. The study examines whether and how perspective shifts from psychedelic experiences affect decision-making in organizations. In the podcast, we talk aboutthe future of leadershipthe future of psychedelic leadershipwhy we love to watch bad leadership on TV, why Don Draper was a traumatized leader and why Ted Lasso and Taylor Swift are modern ego-less leaders for the psychedelic age.how a study about psychedelic leadership and the C-Level looks like and why these experiences could lead us to a whole new idea of leaders.More Info here.https://ww2.kiyumi.org/connected-leadership-for-a-regenerative-future/https://www.linkedin.com/in/bennet-zelner-7220b261/https://www.linkedin.com/in/rachelle-sampson-68a3b610/94. Dr. Carl Hart - The Autonomy of Body & Mind
01:54:13||Ep. 94I wrote 40 e-mails to Carl Hart to ask him for a podcast. and I would have written 50.To me he is one of the most fascinating scientist that came on the radar in the context of the psychedelic renaissance a few years ago. Finally two weeks ago, I was able to talk to him at Neue House in New York. Dr. Carl L. Hart, Ziff Professor at Columbia University and former chair of the Department of Psychology. is is one of the world's preeminent experts on the effects of so-called recreational drugs on the human mind and body. Dr. Carl Hart is open about the fact that he uses drugs himself, in a happy balance with the rest of his full and productive life as a researcher and professor, husband, father, and friend. In his book Drug Use for Grown-Ups, Hart draws on decades of research and his own personal experience to argue definitively that the criminalization and demonization of drug use--not drugs themselves--have been a tremendous scourge on America, not least in reinforcing this country's enduring structural racism.Dr. Hart did not always have this view. He came of age in one of Miami's most troubled neighborhoods at a time when many ills were being laid at the door of crack cocaine. His initial work as a researcher was aimed at proving that drug use caused bad outcomes. But one problem kept cropping up: the evidence from his research did not support his hypothesis. From inside the massively well-funded research arm of the American war on drugs, he saw how the facts did not support the ideology. The truth was dismissed and distorted in order to keep fear and outrage stoked, the funds rolling in, and Black and brown bodies behind bars. "Drug Use for Grown-Ups" is controversial, but Carl's way of talking about the war on drugs and how it brought us here where we are in terms of body autonomy, is fascinating. In this podcast we discuss all kinds of things around drugs, but mainly we talk about the autonomy of body and mind.https://psychology.columbia.edu/content/carl-harthttps://drcarlhart.com/https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/534657/drug-use-for-grown-ups-by-dr-carl-l-hart/IG: @carlhart
