Hometown Glory: Spurs x Culture

“What Have You Got To Lose”

Season 2, Ep. 30

We're back! Well, maybe not back-back, but Ryan Mason's functional lilywhites are still a very welcome sight. The full Hometown Glory team convene to assess the first few games of The (Second) Mason Era, applaud his tactical jiggery-pokery and big calls, and ask the big question: Should we be considering Ryan for the permanent job? Rosa makes her heartfelt case for Team Mason... but is anyone else there yet? Elsewhere, we ask if everything's OK with Harry Kane, consider who we' nick off relegated clubs, look ahead to the double-header at the stadium for the huge Spurs Women relegation showdown and, of course, hand over some brilliant culture recommendations.

If you fancy skipping to certain bits:

00:00 — Mason so far

19:25 — Harold Kane

33:15 — Raiding relegated clubs

38:20 — Villa

43:24 — Spurs Women

52:00 — Culture picks

  • 12. “If There’s Any Justice”

    01:16:27
We regret to inform you that football is cancelled. There is simply no way it can recover from such a terrible miscarriage of justice as that inflicted upon poor, plucky Liverpool at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Oh wait, we don’t care! Billie, Sam, Tom and Rosa have the audacity to revel in our first win in that cursed fixture since forever. Elsewhere, Sam reports back from Stamford Bridge where Spurs Women played their first game of the season (more good vibes!), there are Luton predictions, culture recommendations, and the most demented edition of Rolling In the Tweets to date. If you fancy skipping to certain bits:00:00 — Liverpool madness36:00 — The reffing40:00 — RItT: Liverpool meltdown special57:00 — Culture1:06:00 — Spurs WomenFollow us on Twitter: @_HometownGloryThe team on Twitter: Ash, Billie, Charlie, Rosa, Sam and Tom... • 11. “Watch Me”

    01:35:07
The WSL is back! Rosa and HG cousins Caroline and Lauren are here with the essential info you need ahead of Spurs Women’s opening game*: our new coach, transfer ins and outs, the state of the squad, the players we’re most excited about, potential lineups, style of play—if there’s anything we forgot to cover it’s because we finally just ran out of time. Yes, our saviour (and new club captain) Bethany England is currently injured, but there’s still loads to be excited about. Just don’t look *too* closely at that first fixture…*Chelsea away. Don’t worry, everything will be FINE. Totally fine! Follow us on Twitter: @_HometownGloryThe team on Twitter: Ash, Billie, Charlie, Rosa, Sam and Tom... And we're on Instagram: @_hometownglorygram
  • 10. “The Kids Don’t Stand a Chance”

    01:19:48
What were we all so stressed about, eh? Turns out Ange even makes trips to the Emirates (relatively, kinda?) painless. Friend of the show Kate Storsved (an elite coys tweeter) joins Charlie, Sam and Tom all the way from Illinois as we offer up winners and losers from a wild NLD. There are flowers for almost everyone in lilywhite, an iconic dismissal of David Raya from Kate and a lovely big collective sigh of relief. We’re really good, guys! This confidence won’t come back to bite us at all, right? Elsewhere, Kate provides her brilliant coys origin story, we give some Liverpool predictions and, of course, hand out culture recommendations left, right and centre like we’re James Maddison. If you fancy skipping to certain bits:00:00 — NLD 48:00 — Kate answers our Spurs 71:04:00 — Liverpool preview1:11:00 — Culture picksFollow us on Twitter: @_HometownGloryThe team on Twitter: Ash, Billie, Charlie, Rosa, Sam and Tom... • 9. “Barking Dogs Never Bite”

    01:31:11
Two HGs in a week? The Ange Effect. Billie and Charlie and joined by HG cousin Davina who gives her verdict on the fan forum. Stage-managed PR event or something to force us to reassess certain Levy takes? Did the Spurs Women contingent get a fair look? What needs to happen next? Davina has the inside line. We then preview a gargantuan NLD, share our more hysterical memories of this tortuous fixture (including one involving Charlie hiding in his own bedroom from his Arsenal father-in-law) and daydream who’d be the best player to score the winner (and receive a certain red card). There’s also time, of course, for culture—where Billie gives thanks to friend-of-the-show Constance for her revelation that acclaimed Korean director (and Billie’s goat) Bong Joon-ha is fully coys. It’s a wild one! Follow us on Twitter: @_HometownGloryThe team on Twitter: Ash, Billie, Charlie, Rosa, Sam and Tom... And we're on Instagram: @_hometownglorygram
  • 8. “Breathless”

    01:30:35
This week, the wins are late but the vibes are IMPECCABLE. Rosa and Sam are joined by cousin Lauren to drink in that wild, joyous, and fully deserved victory over Sheffield United: Kulu coolness, South Stand scenes, and of course the Richy Redemption Arc. We assess the final moves in the WSL transfer window and toast the new captain of Spurs Women (guess), Sam and Lauren try to convince Rosa to watch next week’s NLD (and maybe succeed?), and we dish out our culture picks. We love you, Pombo 🤍 🐦Follow us on Twitter: @_HometownGloryThe team on Twitter: Ash, Billie, Charlie, Rosa, Sam and Tom... • 7. “The Holiday”

    01:25:05
Is this the most chaotic episode of HG yet? Maybe! Blame the international break, frankly. Charlie, Billie, Rosa and (eventually) Sam check in to offer their winners and losers from a bizarre fortnight—which include Billie’s intimate dissection of Emerson Royal’s most Emerson Royal moment yet and a big, emotional back-and-forth on one of the hottest-button topics gripping coysland right now: Is Harry Kane Being a Bit of a Dick? We give out predictions and reasons we’re excited for Sheffield United's visit to N17 and offer a hearty shoutout to the work of THFC Flags, before ruminating on the weird pre-season Spurs Women are working through. What can we all do to inject a bit more oomph into the coming season? There’s also, of course, just enough time to dole out some juicy culture recommendations. Enjoy! Follow us on Twitter: @_HometownGloryThe team on Twitter: Ash, Billie, Charlie, Rosa, Sam and Tom... And we're on Instagram: @_hometownglorygram
  • 6. “Feels Right”

    01:11:59
Carabao? Sorry, we don’t know her. The Ange revolution gets back on track with a glorious 5-2 demolition of Burnley in the late summer sun. Billie, Rosa and Tom bask in the Angeball glow and fume at the international break robbing us of our next fix. We grade the transfer window/Rosa gets in her feelings one last time about Dav, Bethany England returns to Spurs Women, Tom was EXTREMELY cultured, and we celebrate hattrick heroes with Billie’s Rolling in the Tweets. Follow us on Twitter: @_HometownGloryThe team on Twitter: Ash, Billie, Charlie, Rosa, Sam and Tom... • 5. “Coin Flip”

    01:39:42
No one said change comes easily, right? Rosa is joined by HG cousins Sam and (making her official debut) Lauren as the Ange revolution encounters its first setback in the form of—surprise!—an embarrassing cup exit. We preview Burnley, look askance at the dying embers of the transfer window, discuss the incomings at Spurs Women (and beg the club once more to just TALK TO US), and dish out some lovely culture recommendations. We still believe in Ange, of course. Onwards, comrades!Follow us on Twitter: @_HometownGloryThe team on Twitter: Ash, Billie, Charlie, Rosa, Sam and Tom... And we're on Instagram: @_hometownglorygram
  • 4. “Uncharted”

    01:23:09
Good vibes only! We carry the euphoria from White Hart Lane and an impressive win over Man Utd into an episode where we welcome two new members into the HG fam—Davina Pindoria and Sam Cornish. There’s time to get Davina and Sam’s coys origin stories before our flashy signings (plus Ash and Charlie) exchange winners and losers from that raucous Saturday night in N17. We predict Bournemouth away, wonder where that Harry Kane cash might go, find out the most dangerous place in the stadium Sam’s taken his camera, discover how many Érik Lamela shirts Davina owns, consider what comes next for the Trust’s ticket prices campaign and brainstorm how we might carry that World Cup energy into the upcoming WSL season. And, of course, there’s time for our culture picks. Welcome, Davina and Sam! Follow us on Twitter: @_HometownGloryThe team on Twitter: Ash, Billie, Charlie, Rosa and Tom...
