Yes, Androgyny

Clothes, Euphoria, and Nancy Drew's Final Case

Ari and Charlie discuss the first outfits they ever wore that gave them gender euphoria. Then they improvise the story of an unlikely marriage between Nancy Drew and a certain famous yellow bear.

CONTENT WARNINGS: dysphoria, bullying. Also some VERY silly references to murder, and...sigh...a little bit of near-incest in the improv, sorry!

GLOSSARY OF TERMS (as we understood them at the time of recording)

  • ANDROGYNY - We understand androgyny to be a blanket term for gender presentation that does not definitively fall into "masculine" or "feminine" presentation. Rather, androgyny sits somewhere in between, or else elides gendered categorization altogether. As such, androgyny encompasses a huge swath of identities, and is not remotely synonymous with "non-binary." Cis people can present androgynously, and non-binary people can present very masc or femme. FYI, the hosts of this show both greatly value their own androgyny.
  • NON-BINARY - We adhere to a principle of self-identity on this show. I.e. people are non-binary if they choose to identify as such, and there are no other intrinsic requirements. In general, non-binary can be defined as an identity that exists in opposition to being categorized by a binary gender. It can overlap with trans, agender, genderfluid, and other queer identities, but doesn't have to. It can spur a desire to use they/them or neopronouns, but doesn't have to! Like most things to do with identity, it's a very individualized term.
  • QUEER - A reclaimed slur that has been largely embraced by a wide spectrum of non-heteronormative folks (us included!) and is used here interchangeably to talk about our genders and our sexualities.
  • TRANS - Another term with myriad applications! Basically, we use "trans" to refer generally to the community of people who wish to identify as something other than their assigned-at-birth gender.

  • For Emma, Forever Ago - Grieving a Lost Sibling

    01:23:28|
An episode about grief—both personal and communal. Frankly, we're done being afraid to talk about it.While we do find plenty of moments for humor in our conversation, this is a very heavy episode. HUGE content warning for discussions of hate crimes, LGBTQ nightclub shootings, and the loss of a sibling. Also we forgot to introduce ourselves this episode. Sorry—we're a bit rusty. If this is your first time, Charlie is the first person who speaks, and uses she/they pronouns. Ari uses he/they pronouns.LINKS:Our PatreonOur TikTokOur TwitterAri's TwitterCover artist: Isabel PereiraAri's and Isabel's Webcomic: MothorialMusic composition and arrangement: FlorrifyTheme by Garrett Stein-SeroussiCo-produced by New 32 Productions (indie media company co-owned by Charlie)RESOURCES:TRANS LIFELINETHE TREVOR PROJECTBLACK TRANS ADVOCACY COALITIONIT GETS BETTER PROJECTFriendly reminder that we're NOT experts in gender studies, psychology, or trans history!Questions? • Not Just Trans; or, Opposite Nipple Torture

    01:32:14|
We're back, babies! This week, we try to have an episode where we don't ONLY talk about being trans. Instead, we talk about other stuff...like religion, and high school, and toxic communities that prey on the lonely. Do all of these conversations end up invariably circling back to gender? You betcha! Plus—and this is just my (Charlie's) opinion—one of our funniest improv scenes.CONTENT WARNINGS: A mild allusion to having suicidal thoughts.
