  • Panic Shack interview!

    17:36|
Cardiff's bubbliest, most energetic and irreverent punk rockers Panic Shack dropped one of my favourite debut albums last year with their self-titled album. Covering lyrical ideas as far ranging as women's trouser pockets, running personal bests, buying toothpaste, eating disorders and working class roots, all with a sense of fierce fun and their tongue firmly in cheek, the album felt like a celebration of life and like a night out in Cardiff put down on tape. It's why even the album cover was shot at the City Arms pub in Cardiff. Now on their first headline tour of North America, singer Sara and bassist Em joined me to talk all things album, blowing up on TikTok, being a working class band at a time it is becoming increasingly harder to do so, Welsh music and so much more! Find the self-titled album as well as their latest single on their Bandcamp page. And if you missed them, they're back in North America this September (Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal in Canada) supporting the Sex Pistols on tour.Touch that dial and tune in live! • The Hausplants interview @ NXNE!

    19:20|
Hailing from Vancouver, The Hausplants are a band with a truly international sound: between singer and bassist Anna Zeleny, guitarist Amir Alav and drummer Sondor Mendbayar, the trio brought in influences from the US, Iran and Mongolia onto the latest EP, Into Equilibrium. A few years ago, Sondor put out a Craigslist ad looking for musicians to form a synthpop band. Zel and Amir were the only people in Vancouver to answer the ad, and a new band was born. By the time we saw the band a few weeks ago at NXNE, their sound had evolved into a complex and layered sound showed notes of jazz, postpunk, prog rock and dreamier shoegaze. We caught up with singer Zel after the band’s incredible NXNE set at Collective Arts Taproom to talk all about the band’s origins, influences, the exploding music scene in British Columbia, filming music videos their complex jazz-postpunk-prog rock-shoegaze sound and their upcoming debut album!Cover: The Hausplants at NXNE, Toronto, 13 June 2026 by Milo Martin.Touch that dial and tune in live! • Snake Eyes Interview!

    31:25|
On their first trip to Canada, we caught up with Brighton punky two-piece band Snake Eyes, made up of guitarist-singer Jim Heffy and drummer Thomas Coe-Brooker, while they were in Toronto to perform at NXNE festival last week. "The root of the record is environmentalism," the duo tell us of their recently released debut album 'cash rich'. The album cover is what they call a business-fish: "the only kind of businessperson that'll be left if we continue business as usual". Cognisance of the state of the world runs through the whole album, as Snake Eyes tackle capitalism, anxiety, interpersonal relationships, distractions and more with loud guitars and lyrics that elevate everyday observations to something that warrants noticing, even romanticising. And evidenced by the number of fans that have taken the time to praise their song 'slugs', something about it deeply connected with fans. The band joined me on the show to talk album themes, their famously DIY spirit, their electrifying live shows, which we witnessed at Sneaky Dee's, about collaborations, filmmaking, Scott Pilgrim and more. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did!Cover: Snake Eyes at Sneaky Dee's, Toronto, 11 June 2026 by Nolan McBride.Touch that dial and tune in live! • Yellow Brit Road 14 June 2026: Live from NXNE, The Bug Club Interview!

    01:15:33|
One of this show's favourite weeks of the year is whenever North By North East (NXNE) festival is taking place. Over the space of a week, emerging music and artists take over the city of Toronto, with venues putting on showcases of some of the most exciting names in the Canadian underground, along with a number of international artists as well. The cooler, more underground cousin of SXSW. And by goodness, is Canadian music having a year.Tune in to hear our coverage from over 4 days of the festival, bringing you a few highlights and music from some of the artists we managed to see, running between venues. We've also got exclusive interviews with the bands Black Paint, The Satisfactory and Neon Bloom!Apart from NXNE, we also have an interview with the irreverent Welsh rock trio The Bug Club, who are undertaking a pretty extensive Canadian tour starting this week! If you spot me at the Toronto show on 18th, come say hello, as most bands in small venues say, I don't bite. Note: the podcast version of this show mentions a few more NXNE bands we had to cut for time on the live show, but I'll include link to here. The magic of podcasting. Music this week by:Angine de Poitrine, Angelique Dancel, Black Paint, Teenage Joans, The Satisfactory, C. Ruth and the Mango Street Trio, Neon Bloom, The Bug Club.More interviews to come next week, and look out on the Yellow Brit Road socials for Milo and Nolan's photography from NXNE. • Vundabar Interview!

    16:46|
American punks Vundabar never expected their 2015 album Gawk to take off the way it did. Stemming from success in the indie world, the album took on a life of its own online during the pandemic, leading the band to bigger stages across the world, TV and festival appearances and more. Even at the time, "we felt like it was a good record," singer and writer Brandon tells us. Even still, the album's legacy continues to introduce new fans to the world of Vundabar. A decade on, the Boston trio have taken the album out on the road once more for a 10-year anniversary tour. Fig caught up with the band to talk all things Gawk, touring, live shows and their latest album, 2025's Surgery and Pleasure. Cover shot: Vundabar @ The Mod Club, Toronto, 13 May 2026, by Cece Tang.
