Episode 226 - The concept of clothing

Season 7, Ep. 226

This week I sit down to talk clothes. Having been told that every sidewalk in Manhattan is a runway it's been on my mind and clothing concepts and me have a long history. Having been alternative and still in many ways am I've found through the years what you wear has a strong impact on what you're putting out but at the same time I pay very little attention to what I put on.

So lets talk clothes, concept and comfort and dive in the laundry basket of conceptual clothing.

  • 258. Episode 258 - Finding your sound in the online noise Feat @PostageTramps

    01:03:54
This week we break new ground with the most people I've ever had on an episode on an episode!I'm hanging out with local New York based band  @PostageTramps . Comprised of members : Tristan, Julian, Sophia and Akshay they have been doing what artists do best and finding their sound and space within NYC. That's not an easy route to take especially in NY and with online spaces dominating new music. But I think they are talented and lovely people so figured we should talk to them.So we sit down to talk, the industry, Live shows vs online, Billy Joel and where an new indie band finds themselves in an ever changing online space when they are just getting started. If you're in NY I suggest giving them a follow and checking them out they are often playing and if you're not give them a listen on the various platforms.find more of themhttps://postagetramps.neocities.org/https://soundcloud.com/postagetrampshttps://www.instagram.com/postagetramps/https://www.youtube.com/@PostageTrampshttps://www.youtube.com/@PostageTrampsAvailable also on:Ituneshttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/yelling-at-concrete/id1238765054Spotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/show/3T2OhYE07edgaBDXrm86saAcasthttps://shows.acast.com/yellingatconcrete
  • 257. Episode 257 - Getting evicted from the internet.

    24:08
This week I get a little nostalgic. I get a little reminiscent and I get a little honest about how I was a few weeks back. The older internet was a free place but not completely free. But it was just enough that you could find random spaces and hang out there with no need to buy anything or watch an advert or even pay attention because they couldn't even collect your details! So lets sit down and talk about that and how slowly but surely they are gentrifying the internet.Available also on:Ituneshttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/yelling-at-concrete/id1238765054Spotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/show/3T2OhYE07edgaBDXrm86saAcasthttps://shows.acast.com/yellingatconcrete
  • 256. Episode 256 - If that's not NYC, Honey I don't know what is. Ft Brooke Finegold

    01:06:49
This week I sit down with Poet Laureate Brooke Finegold. Brooke is an absolutely fantastic poet, comedian and artist. Just filled with a passion which inspires people around her. Not only being a performer in her own right having performed at the Edinburgh Fringe with rave reviews and consistently performing her work round Brooklyn but getting other involved with her Poetry Salon PIG (Poetry is Gay) I had to reach out and see how she got to where she is.We talk a lot of things in this episode not least the glory which is Lucozade and dealing with loss on the subway but all about creativity in general. Where inspiration hits and how work can vary from the humorous to the scathing given the opportunity so settle in to learn all you can.Find Brooke on https://www.instagram.com/ilikerainbows/https://thetowncryer.substack.com/ - Her newsletterhttps://thetowncryer.substack.com/Available also on:Ituneshttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/yelling-at-concrete/id1238765054Spotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/show/3T2OhYE07edgaBDXrm86saAcasthttps://shows.acast.com/yellingatconcrete
  • 255. Episode 255 - Cost of Living vs Cost of being entertained.

    28:29
How do you count value in art?How do you know how much you will pay for anything? Is it an hourly rate? Based on how much you'd spend on coffee? Your min/max of the product?Lets take a moment and think. This show costs you nothing but your time but is it worth it? Is it worth the 28.29 mins? Lets talk film, photography, painting and all the plethora in between as we discuss how the cost of living balances with the cost of us finding satisfaction in the products we engage with.Available also on:Ituneshttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/yelling-at-concrete/id1238765054Spotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/show/3T2OhYE07edgaBDXrm86saAcasthttps://shows.acast.com/yellingatconcrete
  • 254. Episode 254 - Dollmation, Illustration and honest exploration Feat Warren Wright @Warrencito

    55:30
This week I sit down with fantastic artist Warren Wright. I came across Warren whilst exploring my love of stop motion and was instantly taken with the playful nature of his work. Having been artistic and exploring different mediums for years Warren has been in illustration, cartoons and currently is getting critical acclaim for his film making with dollmations. So we sat down to talk artistic and personal journeys in one of the most open interviews I've had the pleasure of conducting in a long time as we talk, the past the future and everything in between. You should check out Warren's youtube  @74renren  and also follow his work on:https://www.instagram.com/warrencito/https://www.warrencito.com/Available also on:Ituneshttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/yelling-at-concrete/id1238765054Spotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/show/3T2OhYE07edgaBDXrm86saAcasthttps://shows.acast.com/yellingatconcrete
  • 253. Episode 253 - Seven things you cant say on Youtube.

    44:26
The internet is an odd place, as discussed recently with WTF Pots the length and breadth of what can get you in hot water with the powers that be of any platform is a real challenge for artists and not just in the modern era. In 1966 Lenny Bruce listed out nine words he'd been arrested for in 1972 George Carlin made a statement on his album Class Clown to follow it up with seven words you cant say on TV. So I thought I'd channel my inner stand up and change the format slightly and discuss all the things you cant discuss on Youtube without the watchful eye of the moderators taking a look. As we discuss not the topics themselves but the premise of what these items create you too can join us as we talk about how to get banned on Youtube. Here's hoping it doesn't get taken down.Available also on:Ituneshttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/yelling-at-concrete/id1238765054Spotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/show/3T2OhYE07edgaBDXrm86saAcasthttps://shows.acast.com/yellingatconcrete

  • 251. Episode 251 - The fundamentals of creating.

    31:51
The first fundamental of creating is "F*** your fundamentals" Or rather that the best way to create anything is to consider that your core values and what you're looking to get out of things is often different to someone else.So whether you're looking to understand the fundamentals of photography, Illustration, sculpture, baking, building, music or anything which requires some level of method and technique to complete My first suggestion is to simply just try and work with what you have and then build on top of your first fail. • 250. Episode 250 - Losing privacy and online personas Feat Sarah Nunn (Spadgerina)

As someone who fully utilizes visual language as a way of communicating and with a podcast which is based around encouraging discussion and communication it felt about the right time to sit down and catch up.In doing so this week we discuss just how little we know of one another despite both of us having a fairly solid online presence and how we've know each other through other people for years but are both very guarded with our own lives. In a world where people are living online and exposing every inch of their day it was great to catch up. Talk a little personally of the why we are as we are and see just what we could learn! You can find more of Sarah via :https://www.instagram.com/spadgerinahttps://spadgeuk.com/
