Being a steward is a great way to get in the game without the stress of passing BJCP exams or writing all day. Plus you get to hang out with nice people who make good beer. Those a good friends to have!

Here’s what’s happening:**HAMBURG BREWING CREATES BEER FOR VILLAGE ANNIVERSARY** Hamburg Brewing has created a special beer, 1874, to commemorate the Village of Hamburg's 150th anniversary. Modeled after the original White Corner Wheat recipe, 1874 is a 5.3% American Wheat Ale brewed with Pilsner and Wheat malts, and Herkules, Perle, and Citra hops. It’s available on draft and in 12oz 6-pack cans at the brewery.**NEW YORK BEER PROJECT OP BEER LODGE TO OPEN JUNE 14** The NYBP Beer Lodge in Orchard Park will open on June 14 at 11am. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will feature Buffalo Bills legend Jim Kelly, Bills Mafia founder Del Reid, and superfan John Lang (Bills Elvis). The Lodge will offer 17 beers on tap, including exclusive brews like Hazy Crush IPA and OP Lager.**WAYLAND BREWING 1ST ANNIVERSARY WEEKEND** Wayland Brewing in Orchard Park will celebrate their first anniversary with a weekend-long event featuring BBQ specials, live music, and new beers. They will release Fuller Send, a bigger version of their Full Send IPA, and Hive, a lightly tart saison with honey. The festivities begin on June 14.**BUFFALO BREWING COMPANY PAKTECH RECYCLING PROGRAM** Buffalo Brewing Company is offering a PakTech recycling program. You can bring your used PakTechs (plastic beer can holders) to their taproom for recycling. They collect, sort, clean, and either reuse or send them back for proper recycling.**BTR BREWS CLOSES IN VILLAGE OF ANGOLA** BTR Brews in the Village of Angola has closed permanently. Owner Brandi Lombardo announced the closure via social media, citing an inability to sustain the business. The brewery, which opened in December 2021, will continue to be for sale until mid-July, after which they will liquidate their assets if no buyer is found.**TICKETS REMAIN FOR RHYTHM & BREWS BENEFIT AT KLEINHANS** Limited tickets are still available for the Rhythm & Brews event at Kleinhans Music Hall on June 13. The event features craft beer and cider from several local breweries, food from top restaurants, and music from Jukeboxx. Proceeds benefit Kleinhans’s programming. General admission tickets are $45, and VIP tickets are $85. This week, Brian is flying solo to bring you the latest happenings in the Western New York beer scene.First up, Smoldered Society is hosting their second Go Skate Day at the Thin Man Warehouse on Chandler Street on June 21. The event will feature a skate jam from 4-8:30 pm, food from Riff City, and a double collaboration beer release from Smoldered Society, Frequentem Brewing, and Mom’s Skateshop. The after-party will be held at the Beer Keep with music from Mike West, featuring tunes from the Tony Hawk Pro Skater video game series. Proceeds will benefit the SFM Skatepark Project.Marquee Brewing in Portville has closed its doors after nearly a year in business. The brewery, known for its flavored hard sodas, opened in July 2023. Owner Cory Clark expressed gratitude to supporters and acknowledged that insufficient customer turnout led to the closure.Registration is now open for the 10th annual The Dude’s Homebrew Competition, benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The event will be held on August 18 at Resurgence Brewing, where homebrewers will serve samples of their beer to attendees who will vote for their favorite. The winning beer will be brewed at Resurgence. Tickets are $30 and include homebrew samples and a tasting glass.Rusty Nickel Brewing is celebrating its 9th anniversary on June 8 with live music, food specials, lawn games, tastings, and a Mug Club VIP Area. Anniversary beer releases include Barrel Aged Rye Slice Old Fashioned, Off the Coast Hazy IPA, Fuzzy Naval Wheat, Strawberry Rhubarb Wheat, Chocolate Hazelnut Brown Ale, and more. The event is free and doors open at noon.Hofbrauhaus Buffalo will tap their Hopfen Weizen on June 6 at 6 pm. This hazy beer with fruity and tropical aromas pairs well with their Grosse Bayerische Salatplatte and Currywurst. Guests will receive a free 0.3L of Hopfen Weizen, and mentioning St. Joe’s Alumni will result in a donation to the Robert T. Scott, AFSC Endowment Fund. On this week’s episode, Brian is flying solo to talk about some exciting events and news in the Western New York beer scene.First off, the New York Cider Association has launched the N.Y. Cider Mark. This initiative is designed to educate consumers, promote the quality of N.Y. Cider, and boost demand for New York State apples. The mark is placed on labels of hard cider to indicate that it is made with 100% New York State apples. For more information, visit www.newyorkcider.org.42 North Brewing has released Centennial Pilsner to commemorate the 100th anniversary of New York State Parks. This West-Coast style pilsner features New York State-grown ingredients, including pilsner malt from New York Craft Malt, and Centennial, Chinook, and Excelsior hops. Each 16oz. can showcases artwork from a different NYS park and includes a QR code with more information. Look for Centennial Pils at the brewery and wherever great beer is sold.Belt Line Brewery has released Fresh Coat Hazy Double IPA in honor of Buffalo Bills rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman’s iconic yellow puffer coat. This 8.6% IPA is dry-hopped with Galaxy, Nelson, and Mosaic hops, featuring notes of passion fruit, mango, citrus, and white wine. Fresh Coat Hazy DIPA is available now on draft at the taproom and in crowlers to-go.Brickyard Brewing has unveiled new summer beers: Trolley Traveler Pilsner, Luna Belgian Blonde Ale, and Surfin Bird Watermelon Dragonfruit Sour. Trolley Traveler (5%) is a crisp German-style Pilsner, Luna (6.2%) features floral, peppery notes, and Surfin Bird (7.2%) is a refreshing sour brewed with watermelon and dragon fruit. These beers are available on draft and in 16oz. 4-pack cans at the taproom.The SPCA Serving Erie County will host Wine, Wags & Brews on June 12 from 5-8 pm at the SPCA (300 Harlem Rd., West Seneca). The event features beer and cider from local breweries, food samples, food trucks, and pet-themed vendors. All proceeds benefit the SPCA. GA tickets are $45, VIP tickets are $75, and DD tickets are $25. Purchase tickets here.Southern Tier Brewing Buffalo will release Walk the Lime on May 30, a collaboration with the Pink Boots Society. This limited edition 5.0% wheat beer features notes of jalapeno, lime, and slight heat. It was designed by the women of Southern Tier Brewing Company in honor of International Women’s Day. Walk the Lime will be available on draft at the taproom.Want to travel to Prague and watch the Buffalo Sabres take on the New Jersey Devils this October? Happy Sherpa has a package for that. On this week’s episode, Scott and Brian talk about some exciting events and news in the Western New York beer scene.First up, 42 North Brewing presents the Fourth Annual HillTAP Festival at Holiday Valley in Ellicottville on July 27. The event kicks off with a chair lift ride to Spruce Lake and features a day filled with music, craft beer from 42 North, and a variety of outdoor activities. Enjoy live music from Smilo & the Ghost (1-4 pm, Spruce Lake Cabin Stage), Miller & The Other Sinners (4-5:30 pm, Tannenbaum Stage), and Workingmans’ Dead (6-8:30 pm, Tannenbaum Stage). Tickets are available now, with early bird pricing at $35, advance tickets at $45, and day-of tickets at $50.In other news, BTR Brews in the Village of Angola has announced it will be closing its doors on July 31. In a heartfelt Facebook post, owner Brandy Lombardo expressed gratitude for the support over the past 2.5 years, explaining the closure as a necessary decision for her family’s well-being.Buffalo is set to welcome Iron Cedar Brewery & Meadery at 4345 Genesee Street, near the Buffalo Niagara International Airport. The brewery plans to offer a variety of meads, including unique flavors like Dragons Breath and Maiden Voyage, as well as honey-infused beers. They aim to open later this summer and will also provide food options.The Genesee Country Village & Museum is hosting History on Tap on June 7, featuring local craft beers, wines, and ciders, including the museum’s own historical brews. The event will include live music, food, magic lantern shows, and more. Participants include OSB Ciderworks, Eli Fish Brewing, and Rohrbach Brewing with their historical beers. Tickets are $30, with a discount for members.Big Ditch Brewing is set to re-release two beers on Friday, May 24. Stark White Dad Shoes IPA, featuring Riwaka and Galaxy hops, and West Coast Burner, a variant of Hayburner IPA with added grapefruit and pine bitterness, will be available on tap and in 4-pack cans at Big Ditch’s taproom.Maifest at Spring Garden Park in East Aurora will feature a specially brewed Maibock from Buffalo Brewing Company. The event, taking place on May 25, includes a keg tapping ceremony, performances by The Caledonian Pipe Band and SGTV Edelweiss Dancers, and live music from The Polka Boys. The park opens at noon with food available starting at 1 pm. Admission is $6.Mortalis Brewing is releasing nearly half a dozen new beers this week. On May 23, look out for Hydra: Sangria Fruited Smoothie Sour, Depths of Hydra (a collaboration with Homes Brewery), Happy Learned How To Putt IPA (a collab with Frequentem Brewing), Pomona: Banana & Peanuts Imperial Stout, and Barrel Aged Pomona.
