Pleasure Islands Beach Renourishment Project Paused: Dredge Ship Reassigned to Philadelphia
The multi-million-dollar beach renourishment project on Pleasure Island, aimed at pumping 1.79 million cubic yards of sand onto Carolina Beach and Kure Beach, has been put on hold until mid-February. The contractor, Norfolk Dredging Company, had to pull out their equipment due to the dredge ship being reassigned to a project in Philadelphia. The original spot near Myrtle Sound ran out of sand, requiring a larger vessel to reach deeper waters offshore. The project, which began in November, has so far laid down about 900 cubic yards of sand on the north end of Carolina Beach. The full push is set to resume before April 30, 2026, avoiding sea turtle nesting season. Checkout Solipillow.com
