At 19, Tom Ngo, started club promoting by passing out flyers. In no time, he set out to become the Asian American Puff Daddy, throwing his own nightclub events and managing artists. Always the visionary and innovator, Tom has helped push Asian American representation to where we are today. Over his career, Tom has: Managed Asian American artists like Far East Movement, MC Jin, Dumbfounded, and Keith Ape. Helped create CXSHXNLY, an Asian American artist management company that later became 88rising. Helped create ISATV, an Asian American Media platform, with co-creaters Wongfu Productions and Far East Movement. Founded Jetset LA, an Asian American events company, that has done over 4000 nightclub events. Mike Mar grew up learning how to stand up himself as an Asian American on the streets of San Francisco. Captain of the high school football team, Prom King, Homecoming King, Mike was the big man on campus. Yet too Asian for some, not Asian enough for others, Mike felt different and alone growing up. After graduating from UCLA as an Asian American studies major, Mike went home to San Francisco to make a difference with the people from his community. First as a community case manager, working with students that were incarcerated in juvenile hall. Mike realized to have a real impact he had to get into education to do prevention. To give the tools to help a student make wise decisions. Today, Mike is an Academic School Counselor at the San Francisco Unified School District at Balboa High School. Clint Taura grew up in San Francisco in the restaurant business. The son of the owners of one of the first up-scale Japanese restaurants in the city. He grew up watching his family's restaurant popularize Japanese cuisine. When Clint started his own dental practice in Japantown, San Francisco, he did things his own way. Informed by his upbringing, he has a unique philosophy when it comes to dentistry. While much harder than following the norm, he’s carving out his own path based on his principles. Clint has served as the Pre-Clinical Adjunct Instructor at the University of the Pacific, School of Dentistry. He is a former board member for the San Francisco Dental Society. This led Karina to quit her job in Silicon Valley and embark on a journey of self discovery and introspection. One and a half years later, Karina cultivated her own self-love and compassion, and has since become a martial artist, fitness instructor, blogger and author. Karina is one of the rare individuals that touches the souls of all those that she comes in contact with. Today, we’re bringing on a longtime friend of mine, one that I admire and respect, David Duong. Since we’ve known each other, I’ve watched David continuously find himself in new situations. Where he starts off disadvantaged compared to his peers. Instead of shying away, David always embraces the challenge. Through a combination of grit, resourcefulness, and generosity, he always finds a way to persevere. And ultimately, find wins in a situation in ways that I could never imagine. Today, David is the Director of Product Management for Apex Legends. Apex Legends is a free-to-play first-person shooter, battle royale game, with over 70 million players worldwide.   Prior to Apex Legends, David was the product manager or brand manager for blockbuster games such as Blizzard’s Hearthstone, Call of Duty, Skylanders, and Crash Bandicoot. As someone who, growing up, wasn’t given the tools to navigate a large corporation, David had to figure things out on his own. We have a chance to dive into a topic that I think is extremely important and relevant to everyone, which is the concept of happiness and personal fulfillment. Our guest is Joe Cha, who’s story can be divided into two acts. The first half of Joe’s life, by most standards, would be considered impressive and inspiring. Growing up in SoCal, Joe attended some of the top universities in the world, with multiple degrees from Stanford, as well an MBA from Harvard Business School. He has had a storied career, which includes being a one time consultant bringing multinational companies to China in the early 90’s, a tech entrepreneur who founded one of the hottest companies that raised millions of dollars during the first dotcom boom, he was also a corporate executive at Yahoo at the height of the platform’s influence. However, through all of these experiences and accomplishments, while at times rewarding, Joe found only fleeting moments of happiness and satisfaction with his life. It took a perfect storm of personal and professional challenges that up-ended Joe’s world for him to redefine his values, priorities and life goals, and embark on the second chapter of his life.
