Flashback: The Golden Goal Experiment

The Golden Goal rule was introudced by FIFA and IFAB in 1993, with the aim of injecting excitement and drama into extra-time periods. While the rule change was responsible for moments such as David Trezeuget's Euro 2000 winner, the rule change had the opposite effect and was ultimately scrapped in 2004. We take you through the rule's 11 year journey from its inception and demise.
