Why Are We Whispering? With Jennie Guay
They Count on Your Silence: Toxic Parenting and Breaking Free, with Cari Fund
Smile for the photo. Even when it hurts.
For some children, that's not a moment. It's their whole child and adulthood.
Today we're talking about toxic parenting, and what happens when parenting becomes a performance.
The happy family. The loving parent. The perfect home. Some parents don't just demand obedience. They demand that their children play along with the image. Smile. Stay quiet. Fall in line. Never break character.
So what happens when you stop performing? When you tell the truth, set a boundary, or refuse the role you were given?
This is a raw and very real conversation. Because silence enables abusers. They count on the toxic family system they worked so hard to create staying silent, because silence is how they keep control. So today, we're not whispering. We're talking about it openly, without limits and without fear.
Today's guest is Cari Fund, author of Autopsy of a Good Girl, host of Surviving Roots, and an advocate for children and adult children navigating toxic family systems. Together we're talking about breaking the performance, and what it takes to finally become your own person.

When Anxiety Is a Spiritual Wake-Up Call with Anna Stauffenberg
01:01:49|You lie awake replaying a conversation from three days ago. Your to-do list feels heavier than it should. And when the noise in your head gets too loud, it’s tempting to reach for anything that will quiet it, whether that’s an extra glass of wine, something stronger, or simply staying busy enough that you never have to stop and listen. But what if the anxiety, the overwhelm and the constant overthinking aren’t problems to silence at all? What if they’re signals, pointing us toward a deeper connection with ourselves?Joining host Jennie on todays episode knows that place well. For years, Anna Stauffenberg battled depression, anxiety and self-destructive coping patterns, until a journey of self-discovery changed the course of her life. Anna is an energy healer, spiritual guide and the founder of Cosmic Studio with Anna. Through energy healing, intuitive guidance and light language, she helps people reconnect with the wisdom they already carry. In her Energy Healing Circles, she works with empaths, highly sensitive people and anyone going through a major life transition, helping them move from stress and overwhelm into peace, clarity and alignment. At the heart of her work is a simple idea: healing begins when we learn to listen differently and tune into what she calls our unique soul frequency. In this episode, we explore Anna’s remarkable personal journey, what energy healing really is, and how building a deeper relationship with ourselves can open the door to lasting transformation. You can follow Why Are We Whispering? podcast here:Instagram: @whywhisperpodcast and @whywhisperthewholestoryYou can find creator and host Jennie Guay here:Website: Jg Premier Divorce & Breakup Coaching & Advisory | Step Parenting | UKInstagram: @jennieg_premierdivorcecoachBook: Howie Blend: Playdate Adventures with Family and Friends: Amazon.co.uk: Guay, Jennie: 9781919623108: BooksYou can find Anna here:Website: Ignite Your Soul MembershipInstagram: @cosmicstudiowithanna
Breast Cancer Doesn't Check Your Age: Sheridan Hawes' Story on Being Diagnosed at 31
59:28|At 31 years old, with three young children at home, Sheridan Hawes was told she had not one but two types of breast cancer.Sheridan is a dear friend of mine, and over the past 12 months I've watched her face treatment, uncertainty and fear that no one should ever have to go through. She's now in remission, but as she shares in this episode, a cancer diagnosis doesn't simply end when treatment does. It changes you, and it stays with you.In our conversation, you'll hear Sheridan's honest account of what a diagnosis at 31 really looks like, from the moment everything changed to life after treatment. We unpack the myths and misconceptions that still surround breast cancer, especially the belief that it only affects older women, so you'll come away understanding why younger women need to take their breast health seriously too. You'll also hear what it's like to keep showing up as a mum, wife, and a friend through the hardest year of your life, and why "remission" isn't the same as "it's over."Whether you've been touched by cancer yourself, are supporting someone who has, or simply want to be better informed, this episode offers perspective, awareness and a real lesson in resilience. Sheridan has shown me what true courage and strength look like, and I think she'll leave you in awe too.You can follow Why Are We Whispering? on:Instagram: @whywhisperpodcast and the documentary on @whywhisperthewholestoryYou can find creator and host Jennie Guay on:Website: Jg Premier Divorce & Breakup Coaching & Advisory | Step Parenting | UKInstagram: @jennieg_premierdivorcecoachBook: Howie Blend: Playdate Adventures with Family and Friends: Amazon.co.uk: Guay, Jennie: 9781919623108: Books
"Sexsomnia": The Rape Defence CPS Accepted and Let A Rapist Walk Free
01:08:49|She reported her rape. She did everything she was told to do and more. Then the justice system (Crown Prosecution Service) told her they were dropping her case based on a rapists defence that she had a sleeping disorder she never even heard of...When Jade came forward, she expected a fight for justice. What she never expected was for the Crown Prosecution Service to accept “sexsomnia”- a controversial and widely disputed sleep disorder defence - as grounds not to prosecute the man who raped her; allowing him to walk free and without restrictions. Most survivors would have been forced into silence by a decision like that. Jade refused to disappear quietly. In this powerful episode, Jade shares the devastating reality of navigating a system that too often fails survivors of sexual violence. From the trauma of reporting, to the shock of watching her case abandoned by the CPS, to the extraordinary moment she decided to fight back. In a landmark legal challenge against the CPS, Jade won, setting a precedent that could change how future cases are handled across the UK.But this conversation is about more than one case. It’s about institutional failure. It’s about the language used to discredit victims. And it’s about what happens when one woman refuses to accept that “no further action” is the end of the story.Jade’s courage has become a warning to the systems designed to protect us:Survivors are no longer staying silent. And institutions will be held accountable. You can learn more about Jade Blue McCrossen-Nethercott and her work, story and crusade for change here:Website: Make Yourself HeardInstagram: @myh_ldn You can find Jennie Guay here:Website: Jg Premier Divorce & Breakup Coaching & Advisory | Step Parenting | UKBook: Howie Blend: Playdate Adventures with Family and Friends: Amazon.co.uk: Guay, Jennie: 9781919623108: BooksInstagram: @whywhisperpodcast @jennieg_premierdivorcecoach @whywhisperthewholestory You can donate to the making of the documentary "Why Are We Whispering?:The Whole Story which sheds a bright light on the dark corners of the rape reporting process in the UK and the criminal justice system. The Rapist, The Survivor, The Reckoning: Beyond the Netflix Documentary 'The Predator of Seville' Gabrielle Vega's Fight Continues
01:21:25|This episode is a powerful and deeply important conversation. Joining host Jennie, is Gabrielle Vega. Her story is currently featured on Netflix and the documentary is called 'The Predator of Seville'. As a newly graduated High School student, on a gap year trip with other recent high school graduates in Spain, 19 year old Gabrielle was drugged and raped by her tour guide. A man that was trusted with her care and safety. A wolf in sheep clothing. What followed for Gabrielle, wasn't just the trauma and PTSD from being raped, but the heavy realisation that she was not alone...that the man who attacked her had raped many other women and girls over the course of many many years. Sadly, one girl lost her life. Where many would step back and retreat, Gabrielle chose to step forward. She took on the Spanish judicial system in pursuit of justice, not just for herself, but for every survivor who had been silenced, overlooked and fear mongered. She spent years of her life fighting to have this monster be held to account for his crimes against women. Gabrielle "won". The serial rapist who targeted her and changed the course of her life and the lives of countless others', was found guilty.Shockingly, he walks free; never spending a day in jail. in this episode, Jennie and Gabrielle talk openly about that journey; navigating the rape reporting process, the realities survivors face within the judicial system and the broader issues surrounding support, advocacy and action. This is an emotive, and powerful episode and shines a bright light on the dark corners and failings of our "judicial" systems globally. 01:11:42|More and more people are beginning to look inward and acknowledge something that, for a long time, was ignored or pushed aside; their past. We’re seeing a real shift, where individuals are starting to recognise how unresolved trauma shows up in their present-day lives. Whether that’s through relationship struggles, patterns of self-sabotage, challenges with self-worth, or even the way we parent, there’s a growing awareness that our past experiences don’t just stay in the past...they shape who we are today. And that awareness is powerful. The Great Parenting Divide: When Parenting Differences End Friendships with Sarah Knight, Founder of FoundHerFire
01:01:14|Parenting doesn’t just shape our kids. It quietly reshapes our friendships too.Today’s episode is a real one. Host Jennie is joined by Sarah Knight, founder of FoundHerFire and host of the podcast It’s Got Pockets, and they get into the messy, often unspoken tension that can creep in when our parenting styles don’t align.Because let’s be honest, friendships can turn into… friendSHITS real quick when you and your friends have completely different views on discipline, screen time, independence, gender dynamics, or what’s “right” for your kids.Sarah and Jennie talk about how these differences don’t just impact our children; they can strain long-term friendships, create awkward school gate dynamics, and even spark quiet competition between parents who actually like each other. So how do we navigate it? Why does parenting bring out this competitive edge in so many of us? And is it possible to stay close to people whose parenting choices you fundamentally disagree with? This conversation is honest, nuanced, and probably going to hit close to home. You can find Sarah Knight here:Website: FOUNDHER FIRE — Sarah KnightInstagram: @foundherfireYou can find Jennie Guay here:Website: Jg Premier Divorce & Breakup Coaching & Advisory | Step Parenting | UKInstagram: @whywhisperpodcast and @jennieg_premierdivorcecoach Book: Howie Blend: Playdate Adventures with Family and Friends: Amazon.co.uk: Guay, Jennie: 9781919623108: Books
