The Haunting of Crater Lake: Ancient Spirits, Lost Planes, and the Old Man of the Lake

•

Crater Lake in Oregon is one of America’s most beautiful natural wonders, but its history is filled with darker stories. Formed inside the collapsed remains of Mount Mazama, the lake is tied to Klamath sacred tradition, stories of Llao and Skell, vanished aircraft, an unsolved double murder, and the strange floating figure known as the Old Man of the Lake.

  • The Ghost Boy of Erie Hall: The Haunting of Chris Di Cesare

    32:52|
In 1985, nineteen-year-old SUNY Geneseo student Chris Di Cesare began hearing his name called inside room C2D1 of Erie Hall. What followed, according to Chris and those around him, developed into apparitions, unexplained movements, attempts at communication with a presence they called Tommy, alleged physical attacks and a blessing performed by a Catholic priest. Unlike many campus ghost stories, the case was documented while it was still unfolding through journals, photographs and witness accounts, although the identity of “Tommy” remains unresolved. The BOOKBUY US A COFFEEJoin Sarah's new FACEBOOK GROUPSubscribe to our PATREONEMAIL us your storiesJoin us on INSTAGRAMJoin us on TWITTERJoin us on FACEBOOKVisit our WEBSITEResearch Links:https://www.hauntedplaces.org/item/erie-hall-suny-geneseo/https://citaventures.com/project-erie-hall/https://citaventures.com/eriehallghostboy/https://www.thelamron.com/knights-life/d6e4yvhunpqbsr7luj6r1xo2ajx1pshttps://www.thelamron.com/arts-and-entertainment/chris-di-cesare-and-the-haunting-of-erie-hallhttps://people.com/true-haunting-eerie-hall-real-story-11827474https://www.geneseo.edu/alumni/christopher-dicesare-86/https://uknight.geneseo.edu/?calcid=1208&calpgid=460&cc=1&cid=5158&crid=0&ecid=5158&gid=2&pgid=3124&sessionid=caacd808-6a0f-4579-8b52-557b514946c7&sid=1648Production:Researched, written and produced by Sarah Powell and Roger Hinchliffe. • The Haunting of 37 Abbott Road: The Bournemouth Poltergeist

    24:05|
In August 1981, a family home in Bournemouth, England became the centre of a short but intense poltergeist case involving moving furniture, flying household objects and repeated disturbances witnessed not only by the family, but by neighbours, police officers and a retired clergyman. The case later drew in mediums, newspaper reporters and psychical researcher Cyril Permutt, yet the activity stopped almost as suddenly as it had begun. The BOOKBUY US A COFFEEJoin Sarah's new FACEBOOK GROUPSubscribe to our PATREONEMAIL us your storiesJoin us on INSTAGRAMJoin us on TWITTERJoin us on FACEBOOKVisit our WEBSITEResearch Links:https://poltergeistarchive.co.uk/bournemouth-hampshire-1981/https://www.spr.ac.uk/book-review/poltergeist-bournemouthhttps://www.newspapers.com/Production:Researched, written and produced by Sarah Powell and Roger Hinchliffe. • The Red Light in the Rice Fields: Thailand’s Krasue, Creepy Folklore

    29:25|
For generations, people in rural Thailand have told stories of the Krasue, a woman whose head leaves her body after dark with her internal organs hanging beneath it as she travels in search of blood, carrion and filth. Strange red, green and orange lights seen moving above fields have repeatedly been linked to the creature, and remarkably, alleged sightings continue today, with reports from Ratchaburi and Lopburi in 2023, Surin and Buriram in 2024, and Phetchabun as recently as February 2026.The BOOKBY US A COFFEESubscribe to our PATREONEMAIL us your storiesJoin us on INSTAGRAMJoin us on TWITTERJoin us on FACEBOOKVisit our WEBSITEResearch:https://intellectdiscover.com/content/journals/10.1386/host.5.2.183_1https://en.thairath.co.th/news/local/2911706https://www.thairath.co.th/news/local/central/2696702https://www.thairath.co.th/news/local/central/2733893https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/general/40032079https://thethaiger.com/news/national/ghost-hunt-in-lopburi-village-creates-chaos-as-million-baht-reward-retractedSarah xx"Spacial Winds," Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licenced under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licencehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
  • Ghost Stories, Folklore & City of Ghosts with Thom Burgess

    53:43|
In this special episode, I'm joined by writer and screenwriter Thom Burgess for a chat about ghost stories, folklore and a lifelong fascination with the supernatural.Thom talks about growing up surrounded by the ghostlore of Kent, from the phantom bride of Bluebell Hill to the stories that first frightened and fascinated him as a child, and how that interest eventually found its way into his own writing and the Paramount horror film Passenger.Along the way, we get into M. R. James, haunted pubs, phantom hitchhikers, the strange ways folklore has moved online and, inevitably, those deeply unsettling Cat in the Hat videos. Thom also shares a couple of his own unexplained experiences, including a very strange night in a Seattle hotel. We also talk about City of Ghosts: The Canterbury Ghost Story Festival, taking place in Canterbury on 3 October, which brings together more than 300 years of ghost stories, folklore, literature, film and the supernatural.Links to the festival, tickets and Thom’s work can be found below:Early Haunts https://www.amazon.co.uk/Early-Haunts-T-W-Burgess/dp/B0BQ4X2WLFMalevolents - Click Clickhttps://www.amazon.co.uk/Malevolents-Click-Thom-Burgess-ebook/dp/B077F4XB87Ghoster : TW Burgesshttps://www.amazon.co.uk/Ghoster-Thom-Burgess-Toby-Meakins-ebook/dp/B088Q4PKPNThe Eyrie https://www.amazon.co.uk/Eyrie-Thom-Burgess-ebook/dp/B077F17L3BHallows Fellhttps://www.amazon.co.uk/Hallows-Fell-T-W-Burgess/dp/B08W7SPT3CManoghosts Youtube https://www.youtube.com/c/ManoghostsTVAnd here is the link for City of Ghosts: The Canterbury Ghost Story Festival:https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/city-of-ghosts-the-canterbury-ghost-story-festival-tickets-1998994102171?keep_tld=trueTake care everyone and I'll catch you again tomorrow.Sarah xx

  • The Watchers in the Fields: Scarecrow Gods, Haunted Fields and Strange Encounters

    35:09|
From Kuebiko, the ancient Japanese scarecrow god said to know everything in the world, to harvest rituals, rice-field spirits and the one-eyed Dorotabō rising from the mud, scarecrows have long occupied a strange place between the practical and the supernatural. We also visit Nagoro, where hundreds of life-sized scarecrows now outnumber the living, before turning to reported encounters involving scarecrows that appear to move, watch, multiply overnight and, in one modern case, vanish from a field altogether. The BOOKBUY US A COFFEEJoin Sarah's new FACEBOOK GROUPSubscribe to our PATREONEMAIL us your storiesJoin us on INSTAGRAMJoin us on TWITTERJoin us on FACEBOOKVisit our WEBSITEResearch Links:https://kojiki.kokugakuin.ac.jp/shinmei/kuebiko/https://d-museum.kokugakuin.ac.jp/eos/detail/?id=9009https://d-museum.kokugakuin.ac.jp/eos/detail/?id=9973https://d-museum.kokugakuin.ac.jp/eos/detail/?id=9970https://yokai.jp/en/yokai/dorotabohttps://www.japan.travel/en/japans-local-treasures/nagoro-scarecrow-village-tokushima-2024/https://miyoshi-city.jp/2022/07/15960/https://miyoshi-city.jp/2022/08/15981/https://miyoshi-city.jp/2022/08/16008/Production:Researched, written and produced by Sarah Powell and Roger Hinchliffe. • The Ghost in the Harvest Field: The Forgotten Grave of the Wentz Farm

    22:15|
In 1892, a farm worker near Salem, Oregon, returned to a cultivated field after supper and claimed to encounter a pale woman standing beside his plough. When he tried to strike her, the blows passed straight through her, and she chased him across the field towards the farmhouse. Locals connected the apparition to an older story of a pioneer woman whose grave had once been avoided by ploughmen before its location was forgotten and crops began growing over the place where she lay.The BOOKBUY US A COFFEEJoin Sarah's new FACEBOOK GROUPSubscribe to our PATREONEMAIL us your storiesJoin us on INSTAGRAMJoin us on TWITTERJoin us on FACEBOOKVisit our WEBSITEResearch Links:https://www.willametteheritage.org/wentz-family-ghost-story/https://sos.oregon.gov/blue-book/explore/pages/american.aspxProduction:Researched, written and produced by Sarah Powell and Roger Hinchliffe.
