In Derbyshire’s Goyt Valley, the ruins of Errwood Hall stand above a reservoir, a hidden shrine, and a private family burial ground. Once the centre of the Grimshawe family estate, the hall was demolished in the 1930s, leaving only fragments behind. In 1974, a fire tore through São Paulo’s Joelma Building, killing nearly two hundred people and leaving thirteen victims so badly burned they could never be identified.
