The Rest is PR

The Rest Is...PR Confidential & Demystifying PR (With Amanda Proscia)

Season 1, Ep. 69

Jacki and Lyle are joined this week by the brilliant Amanda Proscia. Amanda is the COO and Founder of Lightspeed Marketing & PR, a New York City-based agency focused on promoting innovation in areas like healthcare, financial services and consumer electronics. Before starting Lightspeed in 2013, she worked in a variety of other agencies and businesses, including American Express, Burson-Marsteller, and Interbrand. Her incredible level of experience and expertise in the industry has, perhaps understandably, led to Amanda fielding thousands of questions about public relations throughout your career. Amanda is also the published author of PR Confidential: Unlocking the Secrets to Creating a Powerful Public Image, a brilliantly entertaining and insightful look at exactly what PR is. In an incredibly informative episode, Amanda outlines why she decided to write the book, and why structuring it in a 'Dear Abby' style was crucial to making the book the book as educational and fun for professionals as possible. Amanda and Jacki both agree that often the problem for businesses is that they don't understand fully what PR is, while Lyle goes further and argues that by the time they know what it is, they're not altogether ready to engage with the PRs themselves! Amanda finishes the episode by telling you where you can access PR Confidential, including where you can get it for free on the Lightspeed PR website, before Lyle offers up his services for the audiobook which will be released early next year!

  • 91. Why is Princess Catherine's PR So Powerful?

    28:50||Season 3, Ep. 91
    We’ve been analysing the popular rise of Princess Catherine, and what it takes to build a bulletproof credibility in an unchartered era for Royal tradition. This week, we dive into the “quiet power” behind her public relations strategy and look at how consistency and reliability have become her greatest institutional assets!The genius of Catherine’s approach lies in her unique relatable approach. We explore the paradox, as Jacki coins, of her “remarkably unremarkable” presentation - how her steady, drama-free presence has allowed her to anchor the monarchy’s public image while completely redefining traditional royal communication. We break down her action-first philosophy, in contrast to her modern, human-led storytelling with Queen Elizabeth II’s historic “never complain, never explain” model, and look ahead at how this generational shift is intentionally setting the stage for her future role as Queen.In this episode:The Media Masterclass: Decoding the strategic planning and long-term vision behind Catherine’s public appearancesThe Power of The Unexceptional: Why her steady consistency is the ultimate weapon against chaotic tabloid narrativesRedefining Royal Duty: How her actions speak louder than words to build genuine authenticity with a cynical publicGenerational Shifts: Comparing the modern family-first communication style of William and Catherine to past monarchsPreparing for The Throne: What Catherine’s current media management tells us about the future of the British MonarchyFor more expert PR insight, subscribe and join us every week on Where Pop Culture Meets PR.00:00 Introduction to Royal Discussions02:18 Catherine's Evolution in the Media05:20 Catherine's Role and Strategy08:13 William and Catherine: A Modern Royal Family11:21 The Importance of Communication14:14 Navigating Criticism and Expectations17:25 Relatability and Authenticity20:00 Looking Ahead: Catherine as Queen✅ Subscribe: @WherePopCultureMeetsPR🎙️ Listen: https://www.wherepopculturemeetspr.com/📱 Follow Us: Tik Tok: / @WherePopCultureMeetsPR LinkedIn: / https://www.linkedin.com/company/where-pop-culture-meets-pr/ Substack: https://substack.com/@wherepopculturemeetspr#PrincessCatherine #RoyalPR #PrincessOfWales #RoyalFamily #WherePopCultureMeetsPR #PublicRelations #MediaStrategy #MonarchyNews #ReputationManagement #RoyalCommunications
  • 90. Brooklyn's Balls Up

    29:49||Season 3, Ep. 90
    The Beckhams never fail to entertain, and in a recent World Cup ‘inspired’ DoorDash ad campaign Brooklyn has reignited the flames of discontent amongst the Beckham family brand. This week we’re analysing a textbook example of “bad form” in celebrity branding.The controversy centers around a pair of DoorDash commercials tied to the FIFA World Cup 2026. In the viral clips, Brooklyn sits at home holding World Cup tickets, telling viewers it’s a “long story” why he isn’t attending the tournament in person, before giving the tickets away to a delivery driver. It’s a clear dig at his father - a prominent global ambassador for the tournament - and it comes just months after Brooklyn publicly accused his parents of attempting to destroy his marriage to Nicola Peltz. We look at why fans are calling him a hypocrite for exploiting the Beckham name for a paycheck while pleading for privacy, and break down this tone-deaf campaign. In this episode:The DoorDash Debacle: Inside the intense public backlash against Brooklyn Beckham’s Controversial World Cup adCashing in on Conflict: Why trying to monetize a private family feud is a fatal PR misstep for personal brandingThe "Hypocrisy Factor": How demanding privacy while airing family dirty laundry for corporate sponsors completely destroys consumer trustA masterclass in missed opportunity: Why DoorDash’s creative strategy completely alienated audiences instead of endearing themBrand Beckham vs. The Peltz-Beckhams: The wider impact of public family rifts on long-term commercial valueFor more expert PR insight, subscribe and join us every week on Where Pop Culture Meets PR.00:00 Brooklyn Beckham's DoorDash Debacle09:08 The Beckham Family Dynamics18:55 The Impact of Social Media on Personal Branding28:57 Reflections on Public Perception and Future Directions✅ Subscribe: @WherePopCultureMeetsPR🎙️ Listen: https://www.wherepopculturemeetspr.com/📱 Follow Us: Tik Tok: / @WherePopCultureMeetsPR LinkedIn: / https://www.linkedin.com/company/where-pop-culture-meets-pr/ Substack: https://substack.com/@wherepopculturemeetspr#BrooklynBeckham #DoorDash #PRCrisis #WorldCup2026 #WherePopCultureMeetsPR #DavidBeckham #VictoriaBeckham #CelebrityBranding #MarketingStrategy #FamilyFeud

  • 87. Can William Save The Royal Family?!

    39:24||Season 3, Ep. 87
    We’ve been tracking some major shifts happening within the Royal Family, where Prince William is rolling out a subtly modernised PR playbook. This week, we analyse how the future King is using some strategic ‘soft power’ and nuanced appearances to reshape the monarchy’s image. From his relatable family dynamics to bringing in Head of Press Liza Ravenscroft, William is proving that he isn’t afraid of making strategic movements to protect the true Royal brand.In this episode we break down how the Palace is intentionally leaning into transparency and relatability to connect with an increasingly skeptical public. • 85. Meghan W.H.O?

    35:07||Season 3, Ep. 85
    This week we’re taking a look at Meghan Markle’s recent appearance in Geneva at the Lost Screen Memorial, where she delivered a speech on the “dangerous bargain” we’ve made with social media. This speech at the World Health Organisation symbolises a contemporary peak for Meghan’s aim to become a global welfare advocate, but within the context of her family’s $3 Million per-year up-keep costs, and the publicity of her own children, these appearances might not look like the altruistic and omnibenevolent ventures of a traditional royal, but a clamber for social credit and ‘good’ PR.In this episode:Meghan’s Geneva speech: Analyzing her WHO appearance and the impact of her message on digital violenceThe dilemma of social media: How Meghan is attempting to position herself as a leader for child protection in the digital age. Decoding the "Project Thaw" speculation and how it might be affecting Harry and Meghan’s current media strategyFashion as a tool: Why her choice of a structured $4,000 Gabriela Hearst suit was a deliberate move toward "serious" credibilityWhy the timing and location of these European appearances matter for their future prospectsFor more expert PR insight, subscribe and join us every week on Where Pop Culture Meets PR.04:45 Meghan's appearance at the Lost Screen Memorial 07:12 Critiques and support for Meghan's message 10:13 The Dilemma of social media and parenting 11:48 Meghan's positioning and public perception 15:05 The Impact of fashion on public image 17:26 Navigating royal and commercial roles 20:19 The importance of timing in public appearances 23:10 Geographical considerations in Meghan and Harry's activities 26:22 ‘Project Thaw’ and future prospects for Meghan and Harry✅ Subscribe: @WherePopCultureMeetsPR🎙️ Listen: https://www.wherepopculturemeetspr.com/📱 Follow Us: Tik Tok: / @WherePopCultureMeetsPR LinkedIn: / https://www.linkedin.com/company/where-pop-culture-meets-pr/ Substack: https://substack.com/@wherepopculturemeetspr#MeghanMarkle #DigitalSafety #RoyalPR #WherePopCultureMeetsPR #TheRestIsPR #WHO #ProjectThor #SocialMediaStrategy #PublicRelations #CrisisManagement
  • 84. Harry STEALS Kate’s Thunder

    37:18||Season 3, Ep. 84
    There is a massive contrast in current Royal PR strategies this week, and nowhere is it more obvious than in Princess Catherine’s solo trip to Italy. Touching down in Reggio Emilia for her first overseas engagement since being in remission, Catherine has put on a masterclass in soft power - from speaking Italian to school children to learning how to make pasta. It's a complete return to the narrative of regality and servitude traditionally set by the Palace.Meanwhile in Montecito, Harry and Meghan are lying in the bed of their own creation. Between reports of the Australian government withdrawing eight million Australian dollars worth of funding from the Invictus Games, and rumours of a funding crisis, the couple’s approach is feeling increasingly unconvincing and unrelatable to many. Then, spookily coinciding with the Italian tour, Harry writes a scathing piece in The New Statesman about modern Britain and the rise of Anti-Semitism, leading some commentators to conclude that he was trying to steal the spotlight. In this episode:Catherine’s triumph in Italy: Why her "fact-finding mission" is the perfect PR resetThe "Reggio Emilia" effect: How relatability and authenticity are becoming her greatest assetsWhy Harry and Meghan’s commercial engagements in Australia have sparked a backlashThe $63 million Invictus scandal: Is Harry’s most successful project under threat?Why the Palace is staying quiet while the Sussexes navigate their latest funding challengesFor more expert PR insight, subscribe and join us every week on Where Pop Culture Meets PR.00:00 Catherine's Triumph in Italy 08:59 Contrasting Royal Approaches: Catherine vs. Meghan 18:18 The Impact of Communication Strategies 28:01 Harry and Meghan's Challenges: A Funding Crisis 35:21 Reflections on Royal Duties and Public Perception✅ Subscribe: @WherePopCultureMeetsPR🎙️ Listen: https://www.wherepopculturemeetspr.com/📱 Follow Us: Tik Tok: / @WherePopCultureMeetsPR LinkedIn: / https://www.linkedin.com/company/where-pop-culture-meets-pr/ Substack: https://substack.com/@wherepopculturemeetspr#PrincessCatherine #RoyalPR #HarryAndMeghan #ItalyTour #WherePopCultureMeetsPR #TheRestIsPR #InvictusGames #RoyalFamily #Monarchy #CrisisManagement
  • 83. Fergie and Diddy’s Sex SCANDAL

    33:28||Season 3, Ep. 83
    We’ve been following the messy fallout from the latest allegations involving Sarah Ferguson and Sean “Diddy” Combs, and it is a total PR nightmare for the palace. We’re digging into the claims found in the esteemed Andrew Lownie’s biography, Entitled, which alleges a “secret, years-long ‘friends with benefits’ relationship” between the Duchess of York and Combs - including stories of her bringing her own teenage daughter Princess Eugenie to one of his infamous parties.With the Yorks constantly at the center of these headlines, it raises the question: how far will the King’s patience stretch before he takes action to distance the Royal brand from their chaos?In this episode:Analyzing the PR fallout from Andrew Lownie's "meticulously fact-checked" revelations about Sarah FergusonThe impact of the House of York scandals on public perception of the Royal Family and the broader Monarchy crisisWhy the Royal Family’s current communication strategy may be failing to suppress emerging storiesThe role of independent investigative journalism in exposing the reality of royal business and social dealingsConcluding thoughts on what King Charles must do now to protect the future of the MonarchyFor more expert PR insight, subscribe and join us every week on Where Pop Culture Meets PR.00:00 Introduction and context 00:31 Revelations about Sarah Ferguson and Diddy Combs 02:49 The PR perspective on the York Family 07:26 The Impact of scandals on the Royal Family 11:59 The role of media in Royal narratives 16:11 The future of the Monarchy and communication strategies 20:08 Concluding thoughts and audience engagement------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------✅ Subscribe: @WherePopCultureMeetsPR------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------🎙️ Listen: https://www.wherepopculturemeetspr.com/------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 📱 Follow Us: Tik Tok: / @WherePopCultureMeetsPR LinkedIn: / https://www.linkedin.com/company/where-pop-culture-meets-pr/ Substack: https://substack.com/@wherepopculturemeetspr ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ #SarahFerguson #SeanDiddyCombs #RoyalFamily #PRCrisis #WherePopCultureMeetsPR #TheRestIsPR #AndrewLownie #RoyalScandals #Monarchy #MediaStrategy
